I have a yet to be shot 257 R, and the 257312 FP that came with it. Figured I'd never shoot cast in the rifle and prob part with the mold. From your post, sounds like that might not be a great idea. Any load dope on that mold/bullet for the 257 R? Thanx
I shot small bore CBA postal matches for a couple of years with a Pre-64 Model 70 and that bullet with 12 grains of 2400. It shot such small groups that by the third year, nobody signed up but me. FWIW

So after reading for the last 45 minutes, I haven’t seen the Lyman 429244 come up, and just wonder why it doesn’t seem to be as popular as I thought it would be.
I love it, heavy, hard hitting, can drive it full tilt, it has been very accurate out of my 629.
The Lee 429-240 has also been a wonderful bullet in my 44 powder coated or tumble lubed loaded at 44 special velocity’s it is a shooter.

457-193 has been the best 458 bullet I have shot in 45-70

358421 has been my favorite 38 caliber so far.

That's certainly true for my Ruger SBH too, Stihl.

The Pedersoli rolling block prefers Lyman's 457193 to all others. Rich sent me some 535-grain Lyman Postells that were hugely accurate, and I'd put forth the money to buy a mould if my shoulder preferred it.

I have a few copies of 429244 and 431244 but I haven't shot 44 mag forever, and my Redhawk is going on the gun show table next month.

Those were the NOE version of the 458132 . I believe it's now the 460-535 AJ4 or something close to that .

Lyman 2 cavity 358-311 160 grain, that casts a .359 bullet. Goes long with the best caliber of all time. .357. Works well with all lubed, and powder coat. Light enough for any revolver 38 spcl. Or .357 magnum. Heavy enough for any carbine.
Works well from plinking to hunting.
Perfect mould, in the perfect caliber. You won't change my mind.

Once upon a time, when I was shooting 4-500 rounds a weekend, I could hit a medium human sized silhouette at 100 yards consistently with that Lee 429-240. Matter of fact it was one of the first molds I ever purchased, a 6 cavity, and it cast like a dream. Dropped almost perfect bullets every time. May have been whate hooked on casting and shooting cast.

it works in the 44 lever rifles too.
i put it in special cases and the rifle holds like 11-12 rounds, but they feed like goose poop in that rifle for some reason.
ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding,ding.
the only sucky part is finding the cases.

The perfect caliber is 41 mag, silly.

Course I have been known to seriously ask some pretty stupid questions.
I got what you were saying. I have an affinity for "odd" calibers, 41 mag is one of them. And 357 SIG, 38 Short & Weak, 40 Short & Whimpy, and so on.

i'd be okay with a 41 special.
less recoil than the 44 special only with more speed and accuracy.

nobody on the planet ever has made a mis matched cylinder to barrel diameter on a 41,,, well,,, you know except Ruger.

Maybe we could all compromise on the .41 AE.
some years back, I stumbled onto a set of 41AE dies. I like rare dies, when flipped, they always make me money. But the 41AE is so rare, no body is looking to buy them, LOL. After a few years of trying to sell them, with no luck, I ended up trading with "Grumpa" (on the other website) for a couple hundred 556 brass that he reformed into 222rem. He had some plan to use the Size die in some "forming" project, that he wouldn't tell me about...He likely took that to his grave...RIP Grumpa.
