At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Friend of mine worked at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga. Sonny Bono staid there when he was performing at SPAC.
I'm sitting here trying to think of what Sonny would have done for a performance. Much better song writer than singer IMO. "Needles and Pins" man, good stuff.

SPAC, memories...

Jaclyn Smith, wow. Work of art right there. I couldn't stand "Charleys Angels" but I could watch her!

Yeah, think that's right, Jaclyn Smith. I butchered the name.

Most actress's spend hours in the makeup dept every morning, Demi Moore is a good example. It helps I guess but not Jaclyn Smith, she looked her best arriving in the morning with no makeup on. One of the most stunning beautiful women I've ever met and she had a personality to match. She was also extremely well educated.

Who remembers Markie Post? Another one on par with Jaclyn Smith for rare natural beauty. Spent some time on the set of Night Court at Warner Bros but never got to know her very well.

Both "Dunkirk" and "Greyhound" were decent films.
Actually found and watched "Dunkirk" last night. Interesting, but not the respect to the guys in "The Little Boats" that I expected or desired. That evacuation was raw heroism by civilians for the most part and worthy of a much larger tribute IMO. I actually think "Mrs Miniver" did a much better job in that regard than "Dunkirk", and yet that is the miracle of the whole event- those little boats.

The older gentleman who went over in his yacht with the two boys and picked up the hysterical soldier was supposedly based on Charlie Lightoller who was first officer on the Titanic, then captained a merchant ship in WWI and rammed an attacking U-Boat forcing it to surrender. As an old man, it was documented that he got in a private boat and went across the channel to pick up some of the boys at Dunkirk. Quite a guy and I agree with you, we'll likely never see an example of collective courage like that again.

Near as I could tell, Markie Post was still looking good well into her 50s. She just died last year due to a cancer.

Quote from an article I read about Kelly MacGillis and Meg Ryan not being in the sequel;

"Kelly McGinnis, who played Charlie, commented back in 2019 on her absence from the film. She candidly explained, “I’m old, and I’m fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is. And that is not what that whole scene is about.” McGinnis, now 64 years old, has barely acted in the past two decades and has instead been focusing on raising her children, getting sober, and improving her health after being diagnosed with Alpha-1 antitrypsin disorder. “To me, I’d much rather feel absolutely in my skin and who I am at my age as opposed to placing a value on all that other stuff,” she said."

Anne Margret also aged well .

Dawn Wells aged well . She was just a country girl at heart her whole life . I met her once at a holiday dinner but at 10-11 I didn't make the connection with her actually being Mary Anne . All of those guest interviews and most of her acting was really just her playing the role with a little cute ditz added .

My grandfather said me was in a bar with this loud , mean , foul mouthed woman at the other end of the bar . It wasn't long and most of the patrons including himself had either gone home or someplace else . Turns out it was Betty Davis , apparently in life she was very much the woman she played in Mommy Dearest .

I see pictures of a lot of my HS classmates and think to myself what the happened to you then I go look in the mirror and I don't so very much better , I definitely didn't get the chinadoll gene .

Markie was a cutie. That was a funny show, "Night Court".

I think "Mommy Dearest" was about Bette Davis's arch nemesis Joan Crawford beating on her kid. I forget who played Crawford, not my kind of movie. Davis was, to me, about the most unattractive woman in movies. Never saw her in anything where she was remotely likeable as a character. Kind of a Hillary C IMO. Never got the whole thing with her being a star.

Ann Margaret was another of those one of kind ladies. There was a lot of reconstruction with her according to my relatives. Something about her falling off a stage and mashing up her face or something like that. Man, they did a good job!

Ann-Margaret and Raquel Welch participated in Bob Hope's Viet Nam USO tours. Phan Rang was eagerly anticipating his Christmas '68 show, featuring Raquel, but it was cancelled.

Courtney Cox (Friends) went to hell in a handbasket. Watched something on Netflix that she starred in, recently. Would have never recognized her.

Met Drew Barrymore when she was directing Whip It (roller skating) right in front of my Detroit home. Was a very hot summer day and we were in the A/C cooled house house. Wasn't aware there was a bunch of film people all over my front yard till Jazz the German Shepard wanted to go out. Driveway was fenced in with a double gate just in front of the side door. Then all hell broke loose. Plain clothes cop, clad in civilian shorts, told me to get the dog back inside the house. I inquired why cause didn't realize he was a cop............ till later. Would have been nice to be given heads up, before time. Their lucky we didn't turn the underground sprinklers on them.

Anyways., Drew was nice enough to come over and apologize, after the crash scene (on roller skates) was shot. We were out in the side yard with Jazz. She was just about to reach over the gate to pet Jazz. I told her I don't recommend it. Jazz tolerated women but you never know. Men were not well liked, is an understatement.

Watched the movie but the crash scene never made the final cut.

10-12 years ago, I was in a gun shop in Covina sliming about, and saw James Earl Jones examining a Broomhandle Mauser pistol in EXQUISITE condition. He said "I can't imagine what it would be like to shoot one of these". I said "Not very accurate, but great-looking for The Dragon Lady". He laughed, and asked if I owned one. I told him I had a Federal Ordnance parts gun given as a gift in Christmas 1992, and that I loaded ammo to feed it. We spoke for about 5 minutes on how they ran, the disassembly, and related stuff. Decent guy, and he thanked me for the info.

Hummm. I have a 1916 WW1 bring back that is two inches at 25 yards with Hornady 100 half jackets and 5.0 of bullseye. Not in best cosmetic condition but all matching numbers reasonable tight.

Would love to meet James Earl Jones.
Back in the late '60s or maybe 1970, my mother met Dan Blocker (Hoss) in our local supermarket. Said, after talking with him as they wheeled their groceries out to the parking lot, she'd have trusted him with the lives of her children.

Wasn't a broomhandle one of the guns a bad guy carried in Joe Kidd? I remember Clint getting ahold of it and showering the bad guys with a lot of bullets.
