To much loaded ammo!

The first news reports said the home owner was "manufacturing" ammunition & explosives in his garage, and that the Fire Department was trying to determine if that was the cause of the explosion.

Lets see, how much smokeless powder does it take to equal the potential damage caused by a natural gas leak in your home?

I worry more about the gas in cans in my garage than I do powder in my basement.

The smokeless powder isn't explosive unless it's contained which is why ya don't store it in a locked cabinet. My garage is attached to the house thus no fuel cans other than the truck parked inside. All fuel cans are in an out building well away from the house.

We saw the story on the local news this AM. The Omaha station didn't mention firearms or ammo.
That house is literally toothpicks now. Damn

"Firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were also discharged from the heat. Luckily, the guns were not loaded."

I guess that answers the enduring question of how dumb you have to be before they hand you a journalism degree.

Think of the environmental impact from the lead in 100 rounds of ammo........

I need to get busy and load more ammo so I can order more powder. I'm reluctant to go over the 25lb mark, but hate the feeling that I can't or shouldn't buy more powder when I find it at a good price. Trying to stay conservative in my powder reserves prevented me from buying 2 or 3 eight pounders of 4759 before it disappeared.

Home owners insurance.......be very aware.

Had a lightning strike blow a trashcan sized hole in our roof(1810 Federal period, repro).Oldest son helped, best he could, setup up a completely stretched out 40' ladder in the middle of the storm.I nailed a tarp over the hole.

It was something like 6 months after Katrina.Denied coverage after being a longtime, never miss a payment type.....wonder why?

They(insurance industry) can rot in H...

Just be darn careful with whom you give money and your trust to.

Huh, guess they were right by default. Since the house was completely leveled the firearms & ammo were probably discharged into the neighborhood, as was pretty much everything else in the house. Not discharged in the way shooters, or others with common sense would think. Hope the low on ammo family recovers well & fast. Also hope their attorney can shut the clueless news station up with that & other nonsense claims.

Denied coverage after being a longtime, never miss a payment type.....wonder why?

Me to, what was their excuse?

Free,talking about it,for me...would#1,turn into a rant.#2 Raise my BP,haha.

The interesting way that eventually, allows me to get past it was a term coined by my dear wife.Extremely highly educated woman, who is as polite,PC,very well spoken, yadayada.Wouldn't use a curse word if you paid her....

During and after the complete debacle, she made several trips to the agent's office. For reasons only apparent to some higher power?....every time she went the agent happened to be at his office door,wiping/cleaning the front door?

So she calls him and every other insurance guy a..."knob polisher".

Just sayin, got to be dang careful with reading and UNDERSTANDING the fine print.Ask lots of questions.

My first awakening when I started on cast and gun forums was the volume of reloading many do. Once I noted that 500#s of lead would meet my needs for life thinking I had a bountiful stash. It caused a chuckle or two.

I have about 3/4 ton and am always collecting more. Enough is when your estate has to deal with it.
