Swedish Mauser!

I am no Mauser maven, but my interpretation is that a whole lot of people produced generic Mauser actions, as alluded to above. The CZ-527 and -550 are commercial/generic Mauser 98 actions with controlled round feeding, a signature feature of the Mauser system. Along with those Czech Mausers I have a post-war Husqvarna Mauser 98 in 30-06.

But . . . again, as far as I know, and please correct me if I am wrong, the Model 1898 Mausers were chambered in 7.92X57 only. It was variants that were chambered in other calibers.

As to foundries, after 1898 the Swedes made all their Models 1894s, 1896s and 1938s, and some have argued that the Swedish steel was of a better quality than that used by the Germans. Also, to fulfill contracts, Loewe was producing Models 1891, 1893 and 1895 at the same time.

I'm here to learn and and want my test answers to be correct.

And again, what exactly do you mean by an 1898 Mauser? They were made from 1898-1945 at least by numerous companies and gov'ts in a variety of calibers for military units. Do you mean military or commercial? Mauser made commercial '98's in 30-06 and a big mess of European metric cals too. So it's kind of like saying "Winchester 94's are all 30-30's". Not so much. If you mean the first run G98's made for the German Imperial Army, yes, they were 7.9x57. Get into the later ones, say the '09 Argentine (which is STILL a 98 Mauser) or the Mexican Mauser 98 with the short action or the Spanish FR-8 which is also all M98 Mauser...things are different. Move into the commercial arena and Mauser made all sorts of calibers. Look at Lowes or Byf and there's more fog to the issue.

Okay, my lack of an initial qualifier is the cause of the confusion. Apologies. I was, and am, speaking strictly of the military version stamped Model 1898. Not any other model. Nothing stamped 1909, 1912, 1937, not FR-7 or Fr-8, etc. CW posted about some '98s chambered in 6.5 Swede, then later posted they had been reworked.

I think we are speaking the same language, only with different accents.

Solved the crooked neck problem by turning a Delrin bushing from a scrap @KeithB gave me to .465" ID and pressing it into the bottom of the Lee rifle charging die body I'm using to hold the expanding spud. I can adjust the die body up or down slightly to accommodate brass with slightly differing head diameters.

the Germans invaded Sweden during WW-2 because they had been buying their ore from them for like 50 years.
why buy when you can just roll over the border and occupy?

@Ian , very clever solution! An expanding/flaring die with a sleeve acting as a brass guide, if I understand correctly. Brilliant!

More today, five quick shots starting from a dirty, cold barrel, with Magnetospeed attached. Same load as before. I fudged the calipers a little, it's actually about a 1.140" group but 1-1/8" looks soooo much better...

The main purpose was to verify the Quickload velocity so I could feel safe with the predictions as I increase velocity. Not bad, QL predicted 1922 fps at the muzzle, Magnetospeed read 1944.

179,446 RPM and basically MOA at 100 yards from a cold barrel, ask me how much I like powder coated bullets!

Those tree thingies look exactly like the cypress tree thingies that continually clutter our patio and deck, and Duke's backyard, and are one of the reasons why I do not like cypress trees.

makes good fence posts though... LOL

i have a pair of them out front that are like 18"s across at the base, and tall enough they will interfere with the power lines.

Apparently as the legend goes a Senior German officer asked a Senior Swedish officer how many troops he can have ready to defend the border if Germany decided to invade, the Swedish officer replied 20,000 at which point the German officer said well what would you do if we attacked with 40,000 troops, without hesitation the Swedish officer answered ''well we would have to shoot twice''.

Beware, Ian- you’re breaking the laws of nature with that load!

Fantastic results! I’ve only limited experience with PC bullets in my 6,5s so far (many projects, limited time). Well, 6,5 PC just ascended on the list of priorities!

I'd love to get a mold that throws a 160grn boolit with .270 bands x .259 nose but haven't found one yet.

Very nice Ian! So much for the RPM theory and bullets disintegrating in flight. I'd never heard of your chrono before. Wonder if it will tighten up with out it?
