Watched them for about 5-6 minutes before they parted ways. Each going off in opposite directions. Cindy posted a couple of short videos on FB. Haven't found a way to post them here, without making them into U-tube videos. PITA

red Abu Ambassadeur 5000 bait casting reel Got one of those in my tackle box, great reel.
Had a trip planned to Manhattan to visit with friends but I think it's cancelled now. One's bro had heart attack visiting, I'm using a walker now.

Practiced for my upcoming shoot, ran some errands, and did some shopping. Stopped at a rummage sale because I saw fishing rods sticking out of a box. The rods were nothing special, but in the bottom of a box was a nice older red Abu Ambassadeur 5000 bait casting reel. The price tag was 15 bucks. I looked closely at the level wind shaft and it looked good. I offered 10 and was told, "Sure".

Got home later and tore it down for a good cleaning and lubing. This is a late 1950's vintage Ambassadeur and internally it looks like new. Likewise with the grime scrubbed off the exterior looks great also. Kind of made my day.

That was my first quality reel back in the 50's. I still have and use it. I have 20 lb line on it when going for redfish.

pulled some weeds... siigh.
can't spray them. it rains every afternoon as soon as it heats up.
don't mind the rain so much, but it's always gotta throw down some pea to dime size hail too.
i got a few bushes a hair cut, and chopped out the ground suckers from around the crab apple tree.

seen a few Bee's today out and about, but the hail is just knocking all the flowers off the tree's so it's kind of a wasted effort on their part.

It will work good for catfish.
I have more tackle than Carter's got little liver pills, but for 10 bucks? I really like Ambassadeur reels. I have several left from back when I Muskie fished hard in the 80's and 90's. Mostly 6000's and 6500's. Spooled with 36# braided dacron. I used a 5500 late in the season with 17# mono when I was fishing jigs and plastics for Muskies after Labor Day. I used to have a bunch of spare parts and with simple care and maintenance they gave years and years of service.

When I use a bait caster now I have some wonderful Quantums, Shimanos, and Daiwas. Multiple ball bearings, magnetic cast control, and smooth as silk. These casting reels will cast lures light enough to cause miserable back lashes with an older Ambassadeur. But cat fishing uses 1/2 oz. and heavier slip sinkers along with a surgical rubber tube covered in fermented cheese bait, or a chunk of cut bait. Plenty of weight to make nice long casts. I do have a pair of St. Croix 7 ft. tubular glass rods from the late 1970's that will work splendidly. But I will be keeping an eye open for a vintage Abu-Garcia, or perhaps Garcia Conolon glass rod at least 6'6" long.

Went on the yearly grave run. 34 graves. 34 yellow silk roses.

Cleaned up two highly over grown, graves in the back of my family lot. They are over 200 years old. One had no flag. Probably because it was a long with the other one, about 25 yards in the woods, off the main cemetery. Even though he served and died in 1823 during the Indian wars. 6 th regiment. So I got one and put on it.
Turned the name and location with grave photos and gps location, into the local VA down there to see if something can be done about that, while they post the other flags In the cemetery. And have them take it off next week when they come get them.

Plus we put 6 red silk roses, on my wife's family plots. 250 miles put on the Escape today.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Just got back from treatment. Doesn't look like I'll have the 2-3 days of feeling decent this time. No idea why. Sheesh!

I dunno man. All I know is this round hit me within a couple hours. Maybe it's a fluke. It's funny though- it's almost 80F here and that one med I've mentioned that affects my ability to handle cold thinks that my nose should feel like I'm in MINUS 80F weather!!! Had to hold my schozz in my hand to stop the "frostbite" feeling. Really odd! :headscratch:

if your red corpuscles are shrinking from the treatment you'll have that feeling of the extremities being cold.
it always starts with the nose where the tiniest vessels are.
they just aren't carrying the oxygen properly.

sheeze.
i left a couple of the garden boxes open so they could soak up a little rain last night.
they got their rain and then about 1 AM they got pounded by cold rain and hail.
it looked like some 10' tall psycho wearing steel cleats come through randomly swinging a weed whacker around this morning.
the trees and bushes got half stripped of their leaves and blooms.
even the grass and dandelions got chopped up pretty hard, some of the smaller asparagus sprouts got cut in half.

Washed out and refilled the hummingbird feeders. Refilled the regular bird feeder. Damn ring tailed trash panda has been getting to it. Spread some blueberry nuggets for the deer. Mrs. smokeywolf gave our son and me haircuts.

Filling trash bags and plastic storage totes, today. Got about half the stuff in the bedroom organized and ready to move out so I can fix the floor and repaint it.
Then a nice trip to the pistol range. With the son.

i was really surprised at the onions and asparagus simply being cut in half like they were.
they've both survived the pea size hail we've had 3-4 times in the last week or so no problem.
