1000 yards with the 338 Lapua

Went out shooting this AM with my brother. Conditions were perfect. 55 degrees and zero wind. Shooting prone with a bi-pod. I got my best five shot group at 1000 to date. 8"

Lapua brass, CCI LRM primer, 89gr H1000, and a 300gr Nosler Custom Competition bullet.
At one point we had to stop shooting because a doe walked out in front of our target.

This is a dead end road that we always check before we shoot.

The 3/16" mild steel plate is no match for this round at this distance!

I have some 3/8" AR500 plates that should fair better.

Sub MOA at 1K isn't bad, not bad at all.

You need at least 3/8 AR500. Anything less will not hold up.

Wow...Just WOW! Just Great work!!!

Back in the 1960's there was an article in Field & Stream ( I Believe) on 1000 yard whitetail ( Mountain to mountain in Bradford County PA). Since I was a PA boy.... That ignited the flame!
The authors last name was Hart & he ran the 1000 yd club
Jump ahead 35 years.....I'm a Commercial Photographer My Client is Jim Hart Well renown builder of long range rifles! He has been looking at my 18th Century Rifle work and wanted me to do photos for his new catalog. He said the way I portray my Flintlock work is the way he wants to show what he can do!....We get to talking and I tell him about my early interest in the 1000 yd club....He says to me "that article was written by my Father!"
So The bond was made & we did some neat photography together...The son of the man that that ignited my flame of long range shooting!
(Never shot much past 200 yds but I can dream) Glad to see you carry on this long range madness that drives my soul
Jim

Waco, et al,
The senility of this old man steps in! I stand Corrected: It was Not "Borden" but Hart! I just realized while looking for the image I did for Jim's front cover on "Accurate Rifle"
Sorry about that ( Still the same story but The name changed)

Nice shooting!

I hear ya on the range wildlife. Our range here has Deer "inspecting" the target frames daily?

But better than that happened a cpl years ago.Me and #3 son were practicing with our hot rod recurves every day, getting ready for archery season. We were going a dollar a shot, kicking an old soccer ball, then hitting it with our hunting bows while in the air.All good.....but there was a doe that would follow us around.Went on for a cpl weeks, every day. We'd start or warm up on the 3D course, then get to betting, and she was right there within spitting distance.

It's one of the weirdest things either of us ever saw?
