No aluminum or plastic on any of my rifles, neither, and I was born 100-years too late to want a rifle so constructed.

The good news is that shooting plain based cast bullets, and particularly with Ben's moderate fun loads,
the barrel will last pretty nearly forever. So, enjoying a historic firearm while putting no real added wear
on it.
Well done, Trevor.

Trevor said the sights were very hard for him to see.
He had trouble today with vertical stringing.

He also fired 40 rounds of 30-30 with the Rem. 788 at 50 yards.
He really likes the 788 Rem, 30-30 with mild cast bullet loads.

Well in all fairness to Trevor, those sites on that rifle were never meant to be target shooting sites. they were meant to shoot people. Trevor is one of the best shooter for his age I have seen. At least on the videos that Ben posts.

The sights on a 1903 Springfield really test my convictions also.

Trevor, the greatness is in the challenge. This year I shot an '03 at the CBA Nationals, and came in fourth place in all the events but two, behind three '03A3's. Deep breaths, both eyes open and the center of that little peep will be the brightest. Another hint is that the front sight will appear to "bend" right or left if not centered. Focus on top edge of front blade on the brightest spot. If it was easy, everybody would do it. HTH, Ric

Way to go Trevor.

I looked at 2 of these today. Neither in good shape & they wanted 1k for one 1100 for the other. I let them keep them.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
The '03 sight for me is a real pain. I would have to disagree with the assertion they aren't target sights becasue as hard as they are to see in good light in the range, think of using them in poor light in the mud or field or jungle. I have a real hard time with my '03 and it's sights. Haven't had a chance to try the peep yet.

I think the K31 Swiss has about the easiest to use open sight and the '03-A3 about the best peep in an issue military.

I'm in full agreement with everything you've said.
