This is one of my grandson Trevor's favorites.
With cast loads he can shoot it all afternoon.
I built this one 30 yrs. ago.
Metal done by my gunsmith in CO.
I did all of the stock fitting, shaping and finishing.
1909 Argentine 98' Mauser action, Timney trigger set to 1.5 lbs.
Glass bedded, free floated barrel.
Shoots 1/2 " 3 shot groups with jacketed at 100 yds.

Sadly, the 7X57 is a cartridge that many young shooters today know nothing about. All of the " Gee Whiz Ultra Magnums " have eclipsed the 7X57mm.

Oh. My. GOODNESS. Such craftsmanship in your woodworking. It genuinely takes my breath away.

I love the 308 and the 30-06, I have shot them for most of my life and grassed deer with both calibers. But those Mauser calibers are SO DARN EFFICIENT. I have examples in 6.5 x 55, 8 x57, and 9.3 x 62. I always meant to snag a 7 x 57; Steyr-Mannlicher, Ruger, and CZ have all had these commercially available, but I dawdled around and they all went out of print. Steyr might still make them, dunno. 7mm means "Rem Mag" most often these days. AARRGGHH, too many calibers, too little range time or range space.

That is a mighty fine looking rifle that I would be proud to own!!! Ben, your woodworking skills are off the chart! Outstanding!!!

As far as the 7x57 cartridge, a man could do a lot worse if that’s the only caliber he had.

Very nice rifle, Ben. The older I get, the more I like 7X57's. Last two rifles I made for myself have been a scoped 7X57 and a likeness of Jim Corbett's .275 Rigby.

Never seen the check piece line cut up an back that far, at the grip.
I like it. Eye candy for sure!

Ben, have you ever thought about putting one of those extended sniper safeties on it?
Still might hit though?

Allen. CZ still chambers the round.
I think Howa does too if you dig down in their web site

you know Ben my offer still stands,,, anytime you need some hunting scuffs put in one of those rifles..
Littlegirl is doing her Best to wear out my Ruger tang safety and finally after shooting her deer with it this year mentioned MY [not her when it comes to the money part] rifle needs a better scope.

Art! I am VERY fond of the 6.5x55 Swede. Very close to the 7x57. And always wanted a 7x57. A sporter Mauser would be perfect. Yours is gorgeous!

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Very nice Ben. American hunters would be better off using the 7x57 than any magnum in 90% of our hunting. Those who truly need and can make use the super magnum type extended range are few and far between.
