Well, I took the 43 to the gunsmith today, turned out to be a waste of time. The guy started telling me the only good way to fix the chamber was to flute it. I never heard of such a thing, maybe y’all have. He says it’s done on service rifles all the time. Anyway that was to the tune of $1k! When I asked for a quote on re cutting to Mashburn Bee, he came back with $650 and I supply the reamer! So back to square one!
Thats obserd... "Gunsmith" huh. Yea, I agree find a new (OLDER ONE) Setting a barrel back to fix such a issue is a no brainer.
Sorry you got the village idiot of that class...

It is not widely known, probably because it is not a tacticool site. Kinda like here, a decent group, polite, well mannered, heplful, clean language.

Sounds like my kinda place! I think that site is where I was looking many years back when I had a line on a 25 Stevens RF, a Stevens "Marksman" maybe, and I was looking for a CF modification. I think there was a way to do it using reformed Hornet brass. Then there was the Remington 5mm RF's that were getting "centerfire-ized" that I had an interest too since I knew where there were 2 of them in real nice shape for cheap. Been many years though. Both my deals fell through too!

I have a Ruger 223 Hawkeye that had a rough chamber (brand new rifle). You couldn’t get the cartridge to feed up out of the magazine without jamming. Back to the chamber itself, I took a fireformed case, drilled out the primer hole. And JB welded a small rod to it. Applied a thin layer of Flitz polishing compound and started spinning the rod. Don’t remember if I did this by hand or a drill. Little bit at a time, cleaned it right up. Never thought about the JB for the gouge, can’t see way a small amount wiped onto the case and spun in there wouldn’t work. Good luck…Happy Fathers Day Guys!

You know Boom, I had kinda kicked that around in my head after Ric mentioned burnishing with a turned plug. Then I got to thinking since the brass is softer, is that where the polishing would take place? I‘m probably over thinking it.

It's worth a try. Cases are a lot less expensive than a custom cut "burnisher". Kinda penz on how deep the gouges are and how much metal they raised.

Update: I gave the chamber polishing a go yesterday, a fired case and some fine lapping compound. I think I did some good from what I can see with just a light. Looks like there still might be a rough spot on the shoulder. My tube of Flitz was too old and dry, so I gotta get more to slick it up before I test fire. Hopefully next week.

I've never used Flitz that I can recall, but try putting a little solvent in the tube, like WD 40 or PB Blaster, even ATF or a few drops of diesel.
