My hey penny here , and I don't mind the abuse , I'd take a 280. Bullet weights are just the begining of the choice , and with a 9.5 or even a 10 unless there is a 175 VLD or the like you have a good solid 100-175 gr window with higher BC than the 06' and faster speeds than the 6.5 and a dead heat with the 270 give or take 25 gr at the top . With the 6.8 Rem the 270 does get a little edge with varmint bullets down to 80 gr being available and 90 gr gold dots in case you want gophers atomized .
Maybe I just have a thing for 7mms .

Fiver,built on a 700 action,no doubt.

I ordered a 15$ wind meter off flea bay this a.m.Sposed to just as good as a Kestral? What's funny..or not,is..we should've already had one.Use them for dust collection system checks at adj "ports" on the woodpecker machines.Which up to now,I sprinkle dust and go with the gut.

Much like the wind...if it EVER stops blowing here.Gonna use the new, just as good as a snap-on wind meter to try and put some numbers on the lousy conditions.High hopes for the 7-08,which reminds me,gotta go get the freeby SPS.Ordered a Bell and Carlson real, catalog this morning too.

So,25-06...6.5-06...270,and there's prolly a 7mm based on the '06 as well?Taking twist rate out of the equation....which one makes the best CB chambering?Would mould choices point at the 7mm?

Isn't the .280 a necked down 30-06 case? I thought it was brought out to compete with the .270. That's a 7mm on the '06 case.

280 Remington/ 7mm Remington Express. Parent of the 280AI and AI Nosler .
It is on my list . Right next a Gew 98 marked 275 Rigby.

Lots of moulds but boarders on too much case for cast . Nice long neck and lots of jacketed choices from 100-175 gr with the core being 120-154 gr .

RB,...yes a little big but, don't think it's excessive.I mean nobody complains about 06's....well I'm not.My 7 Rem mag on the other hand will never see cast.Heck, have the dies/components but...it's sort of a waste of time here.Buy a cpl bxs of factory ammo and go poke big holes in things.

The 308 vs 06....which isn't a debate for me,ones a SA the other long.So,it don't get much better"downsize" comparo looking at the 7-08 vs 280.Just sayin.

the 280 Remington is the 7mm-06.
airc the british were looking at using the round and switching things over when ww-2 broke out.
IMO Parker would be rolling around in circles if he knew what Nosler and Remington done to the 280 Ackley.

mold choices point to the 30-06, followed by the 7mm version.
I'd use the same loads in the 280 as the 7-08 with Dacron as a filler in both cases.

Getting a touch nervous......

I say my prayers.Am generally a good person.Maybe work too much.Watch the diet, yadayada. But that theme from Twilight Zone has GOT to be coming? So if the freeby 7-08 isn't weird enough....and that really floored this ole goat.Yesterday, get a text about some obscure( codeword for junk) part,we had laying around.Thinking it not right to charge any $$ for this p.o....err,antiquity.I jokingly said something about maybe a scope? As fast as you can write this......the guy goes,SOLD.So,got a free Luepold to go on the free rifle.

What was that guys name?Rod Serling...

It is surprising how much some of that junk piled in the corner is worth .
Like your swap for the scope old Rod may have really scored on that old unobtainium part and you scored a great deal on your gear ....... In truth you probably gave away a $600 electromagnetic self synchronizing drive cog for a 1900 Super Wiz no bump compound horizontal mill/lathe combination and Rod is going to retire on the payoff for that now running 2 million dollar Super Wiz .
