I'll have a mould in a day or two.

311008

My plans are to cast some up & have my grandson shoot
some of these in the Ruger # 1, 30-30 Stainless .

My goal is 1,100 fps. or so.
I am thinking 5.5 grs. of Red Dot or Bullseye.
About like a mild 32/20 load.

Can you offer a reliable load that will get me to my goal quickly ?

With that bullet, I use 4.0 grains of WW231, but it is sub-sonic about 1000 f/s. And with the mildest primer I can find, usually Federal.

Ben,
I think you hit it on the head with 5.5 gr Red Dot! That would be my start load with the bullet on the lands and no crimp!
But I'm thinking 5.0 will be the winner! Also 7 gr American Select!

3.4 grains of Titegroup under a Lee 104-grain bullet and WLP primers gives me about 1030 fps from a 20" barrel.

I want to thank 460MAY( Chuck ) for sending me a nice 311008 mould.
The mould arrived today.
Here are Chuck's comments regarding the mould :

" I have a brand new one made by Ed Schmidt, after he retired from Lyman and bought all their outdated cherries large blocks, single cavity 311008. The mould has the thin sprue plate, unblued blocks, the mold has never been used. "

I got outside with my casting table this morning. I gave it a good cleaning and my usual " mould tune up ". The mould cast great . The bullets fall easily from the mould at .3127 on one side and .3128 " on the other axis. That's good enough for me. I'm sizing to .310 " for my Ruger # 1, 30-30.

Oh, I forgot to mention, no pesky gas checks either..............

Thanks again Chuck ! ! !

The mould cavity is cut in large blocks ( a bit unusual in my opinion ) .

Ian beat me to the titegroup load, you can substitute in 700-X.

I think I would just use the load you use with the 311359 and go from there.

YAY
now get you GS casting
looks like a keeper
I shot with Ed at Ridgway PA, he has since passed

my load in 32-20 is 4.7 grs of SR7625, for my Low Wall Winchester, and No2 RB in 32-20
there is a local Silhouette match here using the IMSHA pistol targets, 100yds for 32-20, 200yds for Rifle ctgs,, mostly iron sights, 22lr to 200yds

I use the rcbs 98gr [RNFP] P/B sized down from 313, or the 359 sans check.
it's a touch lighter, but close enough for the data to swap over.
I started with low end 32-20 data.
but,, No, I don't shoot the load all that much, once in a while for small game [mostly close in ground squirrels or for the occasional tree rat when I forget what pine tree tastes like] and occasionally for grouse hunting.
probably change once the G-Boy gets a few years older, and wants to start burning through my lead supply.

Nice mold Ben!
I have a 4 Cavity Aluminum clone of that mold and it casts really well!
I made a bunch of bullets and never had time to load them so I am following with hopes of learning a thing or two about loading this bullet.

Up Date

Trevor and I took the Ruger # 1 , Stainless , 30-30 to the range this morning with 50 rounds loaded with the 311008 sized .310"..

We shot them in 5 round lots. Each with a different charge or different propellant.

All shooting at 40 yards.
You might say we were " fishing ", we were looking for a load combination with the 311008 that would shoot well. We found several.

Good shooting on Trevor's part
Looks like it works
My No1 32-40 has a Kepplinger trigger on it, much better, alto no longer vailable, there is a fix if you really do not like the trigger, https://www.jardinc.com/ruger-no1/, looks like the Jard trigger also replaces the sear.

Chuck ,

Yes, the 311008 is doing EXACTLY what I had hoped it would do.
Trevor and I thank you very much for a nice mould.

Hmmm. So, basically, as I read the targets, they say "use whatever powder is within reach"! Cool.

Great shooting, Trevor!

Yes Bill,

I shot Titegroup, Bullseye, Promo, Unique , and American Select.
All shot tight groups.
This bullet, and rifle combination seems to be very forgiving.
At age 10, Trevor when compared to me at age 10 can certainly " shoot circles
around me ."

I think somebody taught him well. I wonder who that might be?:D:D

Obviously, Trevor learned the lessons well, too.

This group below was 30-30 Win, 3.8 grs. of Titegroup and the 311008 sized .310" with Wolf Large Pistol Primers.

I'd have to say that Titegroup seemed to be the front runner today.
But others gave Titegroup a pretty good run for the money today

The Titegroup load is a great " training load " for a 10 yr. old boy.
Thanks Ian for putting me onto the Titegroup load.
