357 Maximum Bullet

Looks like a good design. Easy to try and go too long and heavy with the “max”. That looks like a good compromise. May be good for you Texas hog hunters in the .357 Mag as well./beagle

The Ranch Dog 195 & Saeco 353 & Lyman 358627 are my favorites for my Maxi's.

That one resembles the Ranch Dog.

Here is what I've come up with and Tom has drawn up and put in his catalog. Many thanks to several people who helped me out!View attachment 39796
I do believe I'd shoot that in my .357 Herrett and even use it for deer in my beater .35 Whelen. I know lots of shooter use heavier bullets in .35 caliber for deer, but I doubt you'd ever recover one of these from a deer shot at any normal angle.
One of you guys shoots a .35-30, I think this design would be just dandy in that too.

That looks like a winner!

Gas check shank, good sized grease groove, full diameter above the crimp groove, and a big flat nose.

You could drive that hard, like the 357 Maximum is designed to be driven, and get a lot of performance out of a carbine.

I have a mold being made as we speak. Depending when I get it I'm hoping to test before I have shoulder surgery. Thanks!

I assume you have received your mold by now.
Have you had a chance to send any downrange yet?

Unfortunately, Still waiting on the mold. I gave Tom the ok 3/19 and I believe the current wait time is around 6 weeks. I'm having to undergo shoulder surgery May 1 so fingers crossed. Running out of time lol!

That nose length above the crimp groove won't work with N-frame 357s, I don't think. Not sure about K-frames, but would likely fit in L-frames and Blackhawks.

Bullets of this weight range are a real step up in 357 Magnum carbines. 1750-1800 FPS is achievable without strain to the brass or the rifle, and 1500 is possible in the Bisley BH x 7.5" using WW-296/H-110.

I have zero experience with the 357 Maximum, sorry to say.

I'm feeding 3 Ruger Max's. I will most likely give this a try in some 357 magnums as well. This may push me to get a 357 lever gun. Just made me think of my 35 Remington Contender.

I've shot the Saeco 354 in my Marlin carbine for many years, and it has just short enough nose to function with 1.605" OAL.
Its not terrible difficult to modify the Marlins to allow them to feed longer nosed bullets. Mine now can feed my favorite the 358429. Seated to its crimp groove. Shoots mighty fine over 10g of Blue Dot too I might ad!

First casting session complete. Typical quality from Tom @ Accurate. Bullets drop very easily from the mold and started making good bullets immediately. Weight and diameter was spot on to what I wanted. I'll get to the powder coating today. Unfortunately my pictures will not load. I get the pictures to big warning and no option to change.

I made some dummy rounds today in 38 cases, 357 mag cases and 357 Max cases. In my Ruger Max they fit well in the cylinder. No issue there. In my Ruger BH 357 mag no issues with 38 or 357 magnum brass. Same for my L frame 686. Colt Python would be 38 brass only.

that Colt could be fun though.
maybe without gas checks and at target speeds you'd find a good paper puncher.
