357446 Bullet

I know some swear by this bullet and some swear at it, I have a two cavity Ideal mould for this number and wonder how you fellows that like it are loading it. I ran a short batch this afternoon that dropped around 160 grain. If you don't mind sharing I'd appreciate it. The 38 special or 357 mag either one or both.
Thanks,
Rex

I --or my s&w j frame likes it with only lube in the rear grove---10 or 11 gr. 2400---would have to look.

I also like it for 38 sp. with 4.5 gr unique---in bulk :)

very ezey to cast nice bullet's with my old ideal mold---just one at a time, but they r perty !

First mould I ever bought, a used Ideal single. Used it up until I got introduced (seduced?) by the 173 grain Keith. Loaded it with the top groove in 357 and bottom in 38 special. Shot Lyman book loads of Unique in a 357 Winchester 92 conversion and 38 Model 10 S&W. Still have the mould but not cast with it for over 50 years.

My experience over 30 years in a variety of revolvers says it is not the " demon " that many have made it out to be. Quite the contrary, it seems to shoot equally well when compared to many other 38/357 designs.

Is it the bullet design or just a casualty of Lyman's spotty (at times) QC and mismatch of sizes. We all know fit is king.

If memory serves me right, it was a Phil Sharpe design. Keith cussed it up one side and down the other and Keith worshipers followed suit. It is a decent design and it has done well for me.

It worked well for me in old S&W 38 Specials that had .358" throats and .357" bores. Mine drops .358" from old WW's plus 2% tin.
