375 HP shooting

I made it out to shoot today. Took the CZ 375 H&H to test bullets from the new MP mould. I was not disappointed.
Loads were fired at 50 yards because I was at that range. Loaded were 27.5 and 28.5 gr of 2400 with a healthy amount of Dacron to hold the powder in place. I estimate the velocity in the 1700 fps range.
The top target is the heavier charge. The low shot and the one farthest left were the last 2 fired, they had a different primer. This was because those cases were already primed and I needed two more cases to make 20.

Bullets were cast from a slightly enriched range scrap and water dropped.

The nose is largely blown off on impact with the berm. They do penetrate well. These were reasonably deep. I would have no trouble with this load and alloy for deer hunting.

Got any favorite venison recipes? Because you've got the meat gathering covered, now it's just up to how you're going to cook it!

Next up is refining that load. I will then start seeing how fast I can push the bullet and keep accuracy. I'm thinkng a case full of RE 19. Quickload says it might hit 2500 fps at a max pressure of 45 K PSI. That will be a long work up, not gonna shoot 20-40 of those from a bench in a single day.

For shooting anything you want to eat, I wouldn't go any faster than you are now. Now, on the other hand, if you just want to see how fast you can push it, or if you really want to red-mist some varmint, then by all means, go for it.

Glen, this is a perfect hunting load. I just want to see how fast I can go because I can? Not for any reason other than doing it. This HP at 2500 fps would be a grenade on whatever it impacts.

Rock Chucks are starting to poke their heads out when the weather is calm and warm.
that hollow point at 2500 would be just about perfect.
I generally get about 3-4 shots in an afternoon so the recoil shouldn't be too overbearing.

This will kill the rocks too. Soon you will only have gravel chucks left.

Be careful with those rocks......they are sneaky little devils......they'll charge if you don't "use enough gun"!

Yeah, but no worse than a pop can or clay pigeon. Now bowling pins, those suckers are sneaky.
Sadly, none of em are worth a damn to eat.

I REALLY need to find a spot on the other side of Oregon to hunt those. I've never been chuck hunting. Looks like way too much fun!

they can be often times they are just a pain.
you should be able to find some spots on the eastern side of the state.
some of the guy's I talk to over there like to set-up on a rock wall near a hay field they will tote a bench along and can pick off 20 or so with a lot of patience.
I usually walk through a lava bed near me and scout some debris fields in the pick-up.
sadly the very best pace I know of is turned into a state park of sorts and has a free-way right through the middle of it.
I need to check out the lava field up near Blackfoot and see if it's on Indian property or state property.

Brad- Is your Mihek 375 mould simular to NOE's 378275? If so you may try Accurate 4064. I use it in my 375 H&H, COWW/PB 50/50 WD'd cast the flat point@ 278gr, decent accuracy @ 100yds, (iron sights) and 66.0gr gets me 2446 fps.(Chrono'd) Quickload suggests 70.0 gr would get you close 2500 fps. bushman
