Federal 38 Special brass is GREAT STUFF. It is well-nigh impossible to find much Federal ammo or brass locally, even during times of good supply. Federal shotshells can be had, but their metallics have always been thin on the ground here.

Ive been looking for some too. I shoot 38’s more than all other pistol calibers combined, guess it goes back to my days on the pistol team. I shot many rounds in PPC competition.

I have noticed that you are lucky that way:). I think you make your own luck. You are not a blind hog, you don’t stumble on things, you are attentive and on the lookout.

Atta boy!

I have been collecting 38 Special brass for longer than I can remember. I LOVE the cartridge and it is by FAR my favorite handgun cartridge. A 38 Special cartridge will last for many reloading cycles. I'm a little envious of Ben. Finding 1000 once fired 38 Special cases in today’s climate is a windfall.

Right when all of this madness started, I thought about ordering a few thousand 38 Special once fired cases. I looked at my inventory and decided that I didn’t need to do that. I think when the madness subsides, I’ll find some 38 Special brass just to squirrel away.

Not too many months ago I bought (here) 1000 once fired .38 Spl wad cutter brass cases. All from a police indoor range. Rem and W-W
The price was right and now with all the other thousands of 38 cases I already have I’m sure I’m set for life.

I bought 500 Starline 38 Specials not long before the most recent drought took hold. I had several lots of varying make, all of it VERY LONG IN THE TOOTH. I scrapped most of that old stuff, and retained these 500 new pieces with about 250 of fairly recent W-W unplated brass.

I don't shoot 38 Special brass in 357 Magnum revolvers. The 38 Special stuff goes in 38 Special war toys--Colt OMT x 6", S&W M&P x 5". and S&W 642 x 2". I have a lot more 357 cases, c. 1500 count. Those get loaded in a number of intensities, from #358429 @ 900 FPS to top-end stuff for the Ruger BisHawk. 750 38 Special cases is just about right.

Nice score, Waco! That wadcutter brass is another hard-to-find variant. I had about 200 of those among my scrapped brass, they were OLD and started cracking out when I loaded them with the 125 grain JHPs for the 642. I have no idea how many times they have run through my dies. If they have some use on them, they don't seem to take kindly to +P loadings. Some of that WC brass had to be 40 years old, and fired 2-4 times per year during that time.

One can never have too much .38 SPL or .45 ACP brass. I bought a bunch of 1F .38 brass here and there during a time no one wanted it, along with .30-30 and .30-'06. Glad I did, stuff is hard to find now.
