I have posted this before elsewhere but it applies every year.

Today, in 1944, my Father celebrated his 26th birthday in the engine room of a tanker crossing the English Channel. With few exceptions, no one on board knew where there were going but they found out the next day. Pop said his birthday was fairly quiet. He said the next day, the Germans provided the fireworks!

Pop passed in 1999.

Happy Birthday Pop.

Happy birthday, Pop!
My Dad passed in 2008, but he still sees me!
I was proud of him and I try to make him proud of me everyday.
Sounds like you have the same deal with your Dad!

Funny thing, about 2003 or 2004 I was lathering up for a shave. Looked in the mirror and there was as Pop staring back at me, all lathered and ready for the razor. Naturally, I said “Hey Pop, what’s happening?” Now, we live in a very small house, 20x32, so Herself hears me talking. “Who are you talking to?” My answer, “Pop”. Herself says “ Say hello for me!”

I do speak to him frequently and listen to his advice. If it matters, I am second generation Irish and many of the old ways are still instilled in myself. Lots of stories about that but for another thread.
