Hi Ben..Hi Guys...I'm a little late to the table..but I would like to take moment and review what's happening here..
So let's see, a member came up with a beautiful old milsurp..
He with his extensive experience cast, sized and lubed some bullets for it .
Obviously he test fired the rifle using those bullets.
The results were, as we see... spectacular...
HOW COULD THIS BE ????...

As stated OLD technology
Front sight, not a bead, not a post but something in between, ditto rear sight.
Not to mention no enhanced optics
Sight radius, kinda short
The stock is wood, no over mold, no bedding, no laminate, no pistol grip, no thumb hole, no big flat forend, no anything
and has all kinds of hardware attached to it.
The trigger is military and we all know what that means...
Given all the supposed draw backs I again ask...HOW COULD THIS BE ??

Great shooting Ben..great gun too

Dan, The military trigger on the as issued Swedish Mauser is lighter than you'd think and very controllable. Moreover, not all Swedish Mausers are carbines. Mine has a 29" bbl. and is particularly accurate when fed cast bullets sized to .267". Btw, the Lee 6 cavity group buy mold (long time ago on the Boolits site) and an uncatalogued single cavity Ly. #31141 look alike in 6.5mm were superlatively accurate in my rifle, which I'd like to sell (but need to photograph).

A 29" barrel is the only reason I can shoot open sights accurately! My background is 17th & 18th Century rifles so the longer the barrel the more accurate I can shoot open sights ( especially when I can place the front sight 15" forward on a 48" barrel:p)

Dan,

I have three 6.5X55 rifles.
One is sportered,( the other 2 are pristine condition Mil. rifles , one a Mod. 38 carbine - one the Mod. 96 rifle ) .

The rifle below has a free floated barrel , is glass bedded with a 1 lb. clean and crisp Timmney trigger. I'd shot the load that you see in post 1 previously in this scoped 6.5 X 55 rifle. I thought that it shot well, so with my latest acquisition, I felt that might be a good place to start ?

BTW, .......I've seen this particular rifle ( that you see below ) , on more than one occasion, shoot three, 140 gr., Hornady Spire pts. with a load of IMR 7828 into a ragged hole at 100 yards.

Ben, I would love to run across a little sported like that one, sweet rifle. There was a time when I would just chop one of my 96's up, not anymore.
