Look at you, going "tacticool" on us. What is the world coming to? Next you'll be doing a Duracoat camo job on the whole thing! Just kidding amigo, looks like you saved another good rifle and made it a shooter.

Jim, that just shows Ben's talent with wood, he can even make it look like Tupperware!

Come on Ben, how does it shoot?

Ben,
I have always wondered about that rifle: Blued barrel & White Receiver? or is it plated?

Brad,

You wanted to know how it shoots, right ? ?

Recently, my friend Jason wanted to go to the range .

While we were at the range, I shot my Turkish, 8 X 57 mm Scout Rifle. The rifle now wears a 2 X Tasco Japanese World Class pistol scope ( Super clear, vivid, sharp optics in this one ).

I was shooting my favorite load of 12.3 grs. of Alliant Unique , with the IDEAL, 323471, sized to .325 ". The bullet has my own .014 " thick AL gas checks.

I couldn't be happier with my rifle.

I fired the 1st 5 rounds in the group below :

Then Jason shot a group with 8 rounds :

When you consider a 308 Win, Ruger Scout rifle cost around $900, my rifle at $65 + $35 for the synthetic stock and a bit of labor on my behalf looks REAL GOOD to me !

I have my doubts that the Ruger Scout would shoot much better than mine ( if as good ) ?

What? On the cheap? :)

Looks fine and it shoots well, what more do you need?

I want to know if you had a need to freshen the checkering a bit.

Ian, he can't paint the stock, it wouldn't hold up well to his special stock finish mixture, the paint might run.

I'm waiting to see the gloss finish he gets

It has turned into my " Poor Man's Scout Rifle."

I don't want shot with a BB gun, but you certainly don't want this thing pointed in your direction either. It is a deadly piece.

They say that the only people who have a genuine respect for the 8 X 57 mm round were the guys on Utah and Omaha beaches. They had plenty of respect for the round.

Very nice, Ben. Amazing accuracy. Once again "10 gr of Unique", (sorta) shows
the way.

As to the MG42 --
1200 196gr 8mm bullets per minute........ 20 per second........ The infantrymen were truly heroes to go
against those things, ever.

Yes Bill, isn't it amazing that 10 grs. of Unique is such a great starting point with cast bullets in SO MANY cartridges ?

I've shot it in my 7 X 57 mm, 30-06, .308 Win., 8 X 57, 358 Win., 44 Mag and 45/70 .

You can do a lot of tricks with 10 grs. of Unique.
