I have not started to cast yet for my K98, but was wondering if any of you have. I still have thousands of old surplus rounds I need to "go through." But, I want to start casting for it soon. What mold(s) have you had the best luck with?

My favorite 8X57mm load is 12.3 grs. of Alliant Unique , with the IDEAL, 323471, sized to .325 ". The bullet has my own .014 " thick AL gas check.

I couldn't be happier with my rifle.

I fired the 1st 5 rounds in the group below :

Then Jason shot a group with 8 rounds :

After the above photos were taken, I had the bolt bent. Oh, did I say that I like my rifle very much ! ( By the way, I paid $60 for the rifle about 12 years ago )

The Lyman manual suggests that those are going about 1300 fps.

Nice rifle and nice shooting Ben!

I'm certain that you're aware that you'll need to get all that copper fouling out of your bore before you have any luck with cast bullets in your rifle.

I have had a lot of luck with the Ideal 323378 in my original G98s, K98s and Steyrs over 22 + gns of N120, it likes to be driven at 1800-1900 fps in my guns.

I think this mould is out of production but NOE are doing a version of it in a GB of theirs for which I am signed up.

They are offering it in 0.324" and 0.326" diameters: http://noebulletmolds.com/smf/index.php/topic,1633.0.html
