A shout-out for Lowes...

A week or so before Christmas my backpack blower gave up the ghost. It was 9yrs old and has served well as I have a long driveway through trees and a lot of patio and walkaways around my house...so, it has been used a lot. Well, I go to Lowes to buy another Husqvarna, like the one that I had. I get there, didn't have one in stock and told me they would order it, would be in right around Christmas. Sounded good, pulled the trigger and went home. I check back about the time it was to be in...they had not seen it. Said it would be in before long. Well, checked back and it still was not in...I was starting to get aggravated. Finally, it got to the store. Had my son stop by and pick it up. He brought it in and put it in the garage. I had not really paid the box any attention until yesterday when I had looked at the leaves and crap on the driveway as long as I could stand it.

Well, I go into the garage and start unpacking the contents of the box. I get to looking at this thing...seems to be a much larger blower than I had so I decided they had ordered the wrong blower and told my son to take it back on his next trip to town and explain the situation. He said, well I forgot to tell you that the blower you ordered had been discontinued and Lowes upgraded you to this one. Wow...what an upgrade...this is a commercial blower...it is a BEAST. It feels like you are starting a lawn mower, when pulling the rope...but it sure gets the job done QUICKLY. I checked the price difference between what I had and what they gave me...over a $100 upgrade...for free.

I guess I can't complain about the extra week I had to wait to get it.

Thanks, Lowes...I am a very pleased customer.

That's the same blower I've used for over 4 years now. Bought it based on the CFM rating and yep, it does get the job done quickly.

I quit going to Lowes. Used to but, no more. They gave me a bunch of attitude when they couldn't accept card payment without a pin #. Left 1650$ in goods at the counter & ain't went back since.

I made certain to let them know what happened on the corporate website. They left me a voicemail which, I didn't return because they wasted to much of my time & they'd need to put the lady that "helped me" that day on unemployment before I'd go back.

I'm glad it worked out for you but, would be suspicious of their tactics & check the specs/prices.

Me to on cash when possible. Getting Cabela's points on work supplies is majorly beneficial though.

Use a similar unit for numerous purposes. When gutting a home they work dandy for knocking down the last insulation bits off the rafters that the vac guy never seems to get. Use same to blow out my old man's shelves at his shop each year. Very handy tools. Even used it to propel a tiny boat through skinny water a few times.

Lowes did me ok. I bought a high end he washing machine last summer that wasn't worth the powder to blow it to hell. I just couldn't wrap my mind around the concept of getting clothes clean when it finished the wash cycle the clothes hadn't yet gotten wet. Lowes has a 30 day money back guarantee on appliances so after 3 weeks of messing with the thing, including calling the mfg. it went back to Lowes. No questions asked and they didn't charge me delivery or pick up. The mfg. BTW told me that it was perfectly normal, they said it's a high efficiency machine and that's how it uses less water.

Rick, the machine was fine, it's just that you forgot to add the instant water crystals to the wash load. I'll make you a deal on a 55-gallon drum of them if you can't find any locally.

Ya' know...this got me to thinking. There is going to come a time...in the not too distant future, that cash will not be accepted. or so it seems to me. When I am in a store, I see no one using cash or checks...it is almost entirely card transactions....even for items totaling less than $5.

Now, I do debit card online...I have one account that is only used for online purchases. When I am going to order something, I figure out the cost, put sufficient funds in the account to cover that and the rest of the time, there is never more than a few dollars in that account...my feeble attempt at preventing being ripped off by some identity thief...but it has worked, thus far.

some places don't take checks anymore.
I guess them just automatically taking the money from your account wasn't good enough.

the local sportsmans warehouse doesn't take them now, but didn't bother to put up a notice anywhere.
since I keep one account on debit card and another on check it isn't a huge deal. [except for the part where all the money is in the checking account]
I told their manager since I had to use the debit card I would just not make the hour long drive to their store and would just order what I need off the computer.

fiver, that probably resonated with him...the company stores depend on people browsing and finding things to buy besides the things they specifically come for.

I always use the debit card at Lowes because if ya ever need to return something and can't find the receipt they can swipe the card and instantly find the purchase.
