Accurate 3100

Dad gave me a big jug, mostly full of this. Opened it and it seems OK. These days, I don't use a lot of slow burning rifle powders, but I kind of want to load up a batch of jacketed 6.5 Creedmoor to keep around and might do some .25-06, .270, etc., i.e., things that don't shine with cast.

Reading around, most seem to say it burns similarly to IMR4831 and others have said it is being sold again under the name Lovex SO71.

Anyone know about this powder?

I have used a few pounds. Its a good powder for me.
Falls close to n160 and 4831. I have wanted some to try in my 6mm Rem but its not been offered round here in a spell.

So, slower thae IMR4831. Probably a tad slow for the Creedmoor for optimum performance. Might give it a try in 6mm too. So far, Winchester 760 has been the best thing going in the 6mm for me.

I used so me of this up in the 7x57 AI in the late eighties/early nineties and remember a few specific things about it:
  • With a full case, I got less than amazing velocities, negating the "Improved" aspect of the case;
  • "Pressure signs" were virtually nonexistent, with cases coming out of the chamber looking almost like they did going in;
  • Accuracy was top-notch, placing three 162 grain Hornady Spire-Points into clover-leafs at a hundred yards every single time*;
  • Not that this matters to me at all, but it was remarkably "clean," leaving the barrel appearing unfired, even after several shots.
MY brother still raves about it in the 7mm-08 and is happy to get any he can find.

*But then, this rifle would do that with $8/# H414, fire-forming too, until got bored and lazy and relaxed a bit before the end of a string of ten. The rifle was a Ruger M77 Tang-Safety, Ultra-Light, rebarreld with a 24", tapered octagon Douglas Premium barrel, by John Pell. of Kogot, in Colorado.

Kinda curious, but what was the recall for? What was the powder doing or failing to do that caused the recall?

I had settled on H450 for the 6mm, then ran out of it and needed some powder. Couldn't find any H450, so bought some Winchester 760 and it immediately made a pretty accurate rifle a very, very accurate rifle. Turned out my main .30-06 really likes it with 165 Sierra Game Kings too.

I have a 1st year 336 marlin,1948 i beleave,it has a bore bigger then the throat.
I fooled around with it,trying to get it to shoot cast,i finally got it shooting gòod,with a whole case full,of a-3100.does 1900 fps,as i recall.something about that gentle push,with slow powder,that let the ol gun really shoot.3031 speed powder,,horrible accuracy.

MR3100 most accurate load in my Interarms MKX 25-06. And does very well in 6.5 swede w/140 g Hornady. Hard to meter as it is quite "crunchy". Small variances in charge don't seem to affect my accuracy. I don't have creedmore but is so close to 6.5 swede mauser it should shine with this powder. MR3100 and Accurate 3100 same stuff. MR is surplus powder. Very close to 4831.
