Going to try this bullet in my 45ACP Blackhawk cylinder. The mould came a week or so ago. I gave it a good scrubbing & run several heat-cool cycles on the stove. Sprayed the top of the mould & both sides the sprue plate with Frankford Arsenal Drop Out. Also coated all the screws with some sprue plate lube.

I placed 8 lb of 92-6-2 & 8 lb of pure lead in the pot & preheated the mould. This mould took a while to throw good bullets. I expect it will settle down after a couple casting sessions. The bullets came in at 205 grains & .455" diameter. Can't wait to try them.

I like that bullet.
Not to imply I have fired hem, just that it looks good.

He lists it as his favorite so thought I'd see if it could be mine. I'll size/lube some of them tomorrow & hopefully load some. Haven't shot my Blackhawk in over a week. Ran out of bullets if you can believe that. :(

I have that mold too. Don’t think I’ve tried them yet though. According to Tom, you don’t have to do anything but open the box and start casting. He cleans the molds with an ultrasonic cleaner before shipping. Just an FYI.

The bullets look to have a “frosty” look to them, were they too hot or is it the lighting for the pic. or ? I would be surprised if after heat cycling and scrubbing that it wasn’t throwing good un’s. Did you specify .455”? Just interested in what you will size then to. I too have looked at that bullet but just haven’t moved forward with it due to too many projects.

Didn’t mean to insinuate there was anything wrong with them just thinking that any lube from machining might have been chased out before that. If that was the problem to start. Perhaps the mold was just a tad cold to start.
I’m no stranger to them myself.

I didn’t mean to insinuate there was anything wrong with what you said. I just meant that I haven't had a single problem with "frosted bullets".

I usually get frosted bullets, also
I run my molds a little fast and hot to get good fill out.
Never figured out how to get nice, pretty and smooth bullets like Ben gets!
His bullets always look perfect.

The cobbler's kids go without shoes, so I can understand a longtime pro bullet caster running out of bullets for himself.

I too like the looks of that design. After trying a dozen or or more designs in all my .45 acp guns, the one that shot best in all of them ended up being a TC design. The TC is also supposed to be pretty good at killing stuff, too, and a 200-grain version will sace on lead.

The bullets were frosty but not as much as appears in the photo. When ordering an Accurate mould you give him tolerances +or - .002. I ordered the mould to cast at .453 with COWW & a tolerance of + .002. That means the bullet will be .453-.455.

Tied up most the day at the Hospice House. A friend is about ready to step out into eternity. I came home, took a shower & walked downstairs to the shop. Once the Star was warn I ran the bullets through a .452 die. They are ready to load. Maybe tomorrow between Church services.

Man do I like the looks of that bullet.

Creeker, sounds like you need to get out and shoot and relax. Losing a friend is never easy.

He was fine last week & all but gone today.

I wanted a bullet to use in my 45 ACP Blackhawk & a 1911 at about 200 grains & with enough meplat to be a half good killer. The bullet looked good on the site.

Tom makes a great mould and his Al moulds are almost as good as his brass. I somewhat prefer the Al as it is so much lighter.
I need another 45 ACP mould like I need a hole in the head but......
