Got it home.Mounted a 6x44 Tasco, which has always been a shop "mule" to get new rigs,up N running. Will say the fit is good in the Ruger "medium" rings that came with it....P.O.,had a 2-7 Leupold on it.The 44 mm objective on the Tasco is right down on the brrl with a 1/8" clearance, just right.
Got some Hornady 150 RN,which are a 30/30 "designed" bullet...already loaded up.They've been developed for a first year issue 740 Remington 06,which was another rifle gotten because of owed money. It was 100$....and the guy was happy to see it gone.
If you look at the history behind the 740,742,7400....early on,they got the rep as a "jamamatic".The feed ramp would catch any exposed tip on a Spitzer, tying up the action.Which is what happened to it's P.O.And why I went with the RN.Further,to keep from beating up the 740,they get loaded more twds the bullets 30/30 velocity window.
So,short brrl 77 enters the fray.Same load,FL resizing because of 740 semi auto chamber....it'll interchange with the 77.The 740,while being in 80-85% NRA,almost VG condition....accuracy never was much.Minute of coke can @100,at best.Again, right about what we can expect from a bone stock 77.
Am gonna get a plastic scabbard. But it's not going to be a CB pkg.It is the old style tang safety...1989?My searching has it maybe a cpl years older on the serial #....86?
