Well ..What a beautiful day today... 72 degrees, 10 knot wind dead on at the range...
A great day to try Ben's Saeco #311....I say Ben's because he was kind enough to send along A LOT of
bullets cast from his Saeco #311 Mold, sized, lubed and checked with his Al checks......THANKS AGAIN ben!
I have tried this bullet before in the 700..just getting a feel for it..but this time I thought I would go for the gold..
The 311 cast with Ben's alloy.."COWW with a little Lino thrown in"averages about 166.5 grs fully dressed..
Ben had sized them .311..but for the Rem I resized to .309..
When doing this I noticed a slight hint of them being out of round..no big deal.....especially if you look at the target.....
I loaded them up with 16.8 grs of 2400 and primed them with WLR primers....this was the second group of the day...the first was five rounds of 315...another story...
I think they did very well ..showing great promise....you know me and scopes..Ben has shot better groups than me with scopes...BUT I will say I am getting used to this gun shooting one hole groups .. I don't get all upset now when I see one hole after firing three or so rounds..now after the third round it is another story..
Here is the target...
I then tried some of the Eagan bullets Ben sent along...again all sized and lubed....
Apparently I need to load them a little hotter as tipping was prevalent in all ten rounds...
As you can see the hole from the point is off center on all holes...
I was able to recover some of the rounds....can you tell Ben's bullets from mine?
Ben's alloy stayed together much better than mine...the softer alloy shoots as good as my 92/4/4
Ditto for the Al checks verses the copper ones...
They obviously hang on..
Ben's checks were absolutely perfect..clean edges ,extremely uniform...
The only comment I can make on Al vs copper is that I do feel a noticeable difference when seating the bullet..those with the copper checks take little more force..the second observation is that the copper check have considerably more spring back after sizing...
Also what I have concluded is that at the velocities I shoot at anything with a BNH between COWW and 92/4/4 shoots just fine..
Ben.. Thanks for the opportunity to experiment with these bullets..I PROMISE THAT I WILL POST A PICTURE OF A BUG HOLE WITH THE 311'S BEFORE I RUN OUT...
So...I am anxious to try more of the 311's it's a shooter and work up a load for the Eagan's....
