billiard ball drilling

I drilled 2 on the drill press with std drill bits. Use them for press handles. Basically same as drilling hard wood. Real trick is getting the hole centered!

On a lathe in a three jaw chuck it shouldn't be much of a problem. Don't know what type of plastic they use for billiard balls but if you start slow and use a sharp bit most plastics, even the harder types cut pretty well. Wouldn't recommend a masonry bit, but a carbide tipped twist drill might be OK. A masonry bit is ground with the wrong angles and clearances.

If I were worried about drilling off center on a ball in a three jaw I would (a) use a center drill, and/or (b) face off a flat spot on the end the same diameter as the drill. Drilling using a drill press is a little more difficult, as Ian says, to drill a hole on a radius line directly to the center. A simple guide is easy enough to make if you have access to a lathe.

Lathe and both a) and b). Drill press: Hit it with a file to make a flat spot, center up on the flat circle, and poke the hole.

Drillpress;

Clamp in a big enough vee block set on the vertical. Center on the Vee,measure to hit the other axis.

There's an even easier way on a DP,but noway in heck I can explain it. Will set it up tomorrow a.m. It uses a long,tap handle of all things?

A billiard ball drilling? Hell, never seen one with a rifle or shotgun barrel muchless both.

What is it chambered in? Got photos? How does it shoot?

Trivia time
Drilling: Drei is German for three, so the gun is actually a dreiling. Americanization changed it to drilling.

I can answer that one, it will be a 1-1/2 pounder.
