Boy, I guess I just haven't been paying attn!

I was just looking around the internet for reloading supplies while I waited for the pain killers to kick in and dull the hurt from this mornings exercise (spindle bushings on a 1958 tractor). I know I haven't had to order anything in a few years, but $35-40 for gas checks?!!! Holy inflation Batman! I know stuff went up some, but I was genuinely surprised at the cost of checks. Last ones I recall buying ran around $17.00 per K and I flt that was robbery. I'm going to have to get a job to support my hobbies if this keeps up! There are no pain killers that work on your wallet!

Seems to me, Bret, that prices haven't gone down from the panic buying and hoarding days of 2007, when ol' Barry arrived on the scene.

Could it be manufacturers found that we would continue to pay inflated prices, even after supplies were more than sufficient to meet demand?

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
My buddy at the LGS said he saw somewhere on the net small rifle primers priced $200 per k.

Bret,
While Sage's copper gas checks are quality, they do not crimp on like Hornady's checks. If you ever have to pull a bullet, many times the check and powder remains in the case.
A minor inconvenience? Possibly. But, I've decided that any future checks will be Hornady's.

I can vouch for powder coating as a gas check adhesive:). I still have some old Lyman checks that I want to use up, so I powder coated some 358156HPs and held them with tweezers while setting Lyman checks in place, then I baked them as usual. Those checks are ON THERE!!

You know, I've used hundreds, thousands actually, old style Lyman checks and I can't recall every having any problem other than a check hanging in a case if I had to pull a round apart. A lot of them were a pretty tight fit on the GC shank and seemed to stay pretty well put after sizing. I just never found them to be a big issue. I prefer the crimp on's but that's mostly out of habit I think.

best price that I have found in a long time. Quality is good enough for me and I've used his copper and aluminum checks on several calibers.

And unleaded shot prices.

Hornady anything is getting very pricey. The company has LapuaNormaitis, minus the quality uptick.

I had an amazing exprience the other day. I went to local gun shop and found a box of 160gr 6.5 RN Hornadys. They were a buck more than the mail order houses, $32.00. I paid gladly and got some primers too. I was simply amazed to find them! My last box of the same bullet dates from the late 70's, it's empty of course, and my fathers handwriting marked the box "$7.99". Those were the days!

Bret, The price of GC's + the popularity of powder coating may help explain why so many of us have turned to plain base CB's.
When Waco does a video of 2 MOA groups at 500 yards with .308 shooting plain base, powder coated bullets, I may jump on the band wagon.

I can see the validity of that argument. I am strongly considering jumping on board. Maybe PCing is the answer to getting the "30 Plinker" to finally show some groups instead of patterns!

Shooting offhand is indeed great fun, but in my case, the little skill I had at it has eroded. OTOH, various muzzleloading sites have been sponsoring offhand BP postal matches (to keep us amused during the Covid-19 crisis) usually @ 25 yd., at targets such as the one attached (8 .5" x 11"):
