Believe it or not, i do this with a Bottom Pour Pots, Most Fella’s that Cast BIG HEAVY Muzzleloader Bullets use a Ladle. I just can’t get the Hang of Ladles, I got Spoiled with a Bottom pour, Just What i learned on. I did Modify the Spout by drilling it out to 3/32”, This Allows me to fill these BIG 500 PLUS Grain Molds FAST, REALLY FAST (Which is Key with these Big Bullets) With the Spout opened to 3/32 i have to tinker with the Valve Flow Adjustment, Lead Will Actually Splash Back out if not Careful. With a little tinkering, fine Tuning, i can pour a Pile of Perfect HEAVY Weight Bullets in a Hurry. I am picky, I only keep them at 1 Grain of eachother, Every bullet is Weighed after a Casting Session, Say my Mold is Running 465 Grains, I will keep 464.5 to 465.5, a 1/10 Grain either way and they Go Back in the Melt. When i get on a “Roll” and My Mold is Casting Optimum, My weights are Closer to a 1/2 Grain

That's outstanding consistency. Many people strive for that with a bullet 1/3 that weight.

Bullets that heavy sure do go through a pot of alloy in a hurry huh?

They EAT UP the Lead in a Hurry!! I always say, a Guy needs a Dump truck of Lead/Alloy, Whatever He’s Casting? Backed up to the Lead Pot

Casting didn’t come Easy to me, i got Frustrated with it BADLY a Few times, I just kept going back and Trying Different things, Finally it Started to Come together, Every Mold has a Personality. The Mold above (Cupped Base, Nose Pour) That thing was a NIGHTMARE to me!! It casts INCREDIBLE Bullets when i finally get “Rolling” But what a PAIN to Get there! I actually Wrote myself a Note that Stays in that Mold Box, all the Do’s and Don’ts With it. I cast So many Different Bullets that i forget a “Problem Child” Mold The Little note makes me think, AHH YEA IT’S YOU AGAIN!! LOLOL!

Very nice castings.

I was a strictly bottom pour, until Rick recently, converted me. I've been at it, since the mid 70's, learned by trial and error.

What ladle were you using? A simple trick with the ladle is don't look at it as pouring lead, view it as pouring heat and getting BOTH the sprue plate and the mold to proper casting temps.

If you were using the Lyman or RCBS ladle and pouring those bullets it's no wonder you didn't get the hang of it, nobody else could either.

I too switched from ladle to bottom pour.
once you fidget the speed and pressure you can turn out some good bullets.
even 22 cal stuff.
good enough that I know the 2 cavity's on my rcbs mold pours different weight bullets.

I don't think most people consider fill rate and how the alloy enters the cavity enough.

Hello nice to see you here. I’m glockky over on CB site. You really helped me a lot with my muzzleloader and sent me some bullets to try.

Ended up buying a accurate mold you designed.
