Cabellas Milsurps

Was in the area so stopped at Cabella's just to brouse. That's all I did----brouse. I always check out the
milsurps in the used racks. Today was really sticker shock! Most of the milsurps in poor to fair quality were
priced in the 500.00+ bracket. Some of the Mosins were close to 300.00. An end of war 6.5 Jap, that was
in very poor (use only as a pry bar) was low 400.00. One very nice SMLE 303, was 800.00. A Swed carbine
in fair to good condition was about 700.00. Some various 8x57's in fair to good (maybe) condition were all priced in the 550.00 bracket. Win Mosins in fair shape were also in the 550. bracket. Only the SMLE would be
of collector condition.

I cant help but wonder if there are people out there willing to put those kinds of dollars into these weapon that were selling less than 10 years ago for less than 1/4 the asking price. You can buy a brand new modern rifle
on sale today for about 300.00 that out of the box will shoot at or near MOA. Am glad I have my milsurps that
I bought when I could afford them.

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Last September, while on a road trip to Wisconsin, we stopped at the Sydney, Nebraska, Cabela's. Surely, they must hide gold ingots in their mil-surp rifles, because there's no other reason for them to be priced so ridiculously high.

Ain't just the milsurps cabelas lost their mind on pricing.

They've typically been close to or above new prices on used guns since kings zeros second term.

Looked at a few levers out there recently. They were more expensive than I can buy online, pay shipping, & transfer fee for. Then they want sales tax on top, no thanks.

They will give discounts on used guns if you ask/offer less but, their prices are so high it's not worth offering on.

The sols downtown on 16th usually has a rack or 2 of milsurps on hand. They are priced a bit high but Tom will discount them some if you ask/offer.

I'm afraid the prices aren't coming down anytime soon.

I think the same virus that caused a brick of 1960s Monkey Ward's 22 LR to cost $100 has spread to the gun trade at large. Delusional. Pricing like this really puts the "SHOW" back in "gun show", because that will be all that happens with prices that high--showing, and not buying.

No kiddin huh? Last show I went to a fellow had a pair of Ruger 10/22's. Only wanted $1600.00 for the pair. While I was standing there with a strange look on my face he says that if I only want one he could let me have it for $750.00. Me says I'll bet you would. Same show another guy had a Dan Wesson 8" 414SM, wanted $1800.00 for it. He probably still has it.

Hey Paul..not saying their price were readonable..but one of the reasons I am attracted to milsurps is because they are an investment...USUALLY..you get your money back..sometimes a whole lot more than you laid for them...
Not so with commercial guns...

Worst I ever had were AR's..the only way you can sell them up here is to part them out...

Over pay for a millsurp and you will loose less...usually far less.

As an old gun dealer and jobber the usual trade in on a new gun was 50% plus or minus 10% depending on condition.

Example someone trading in a $900.00 BVS would get $540.00 towards whatever they were looking for.

Sounds tough but consider ..a customer would expect a healthy discount because it was used..the dealer would like to make something...so it goes out on the shelf for $700.00 with some wiggle room say 5% for a good customer.....the dealer ends up with a $100.00 profit.

Millsurp...sells for $800.00..comes back in for trade..they get $700.00, $650.goes back out for $800.00.. $100.00 profit..

I will deal in millsurps all day long....far happier customers...no "can't believe you are screwing me like this"...

Just saying...tough buy in though..I will admit that..

I'd probably have bought that 414 if I had the cash. [of course it's the only one I don't have]
the only other one I have ever seen was marked $3,000

Dan, Before I photograph them (give me a few days please) you should know what they are: a Modelo 1909 Arg. Mauser, all matching but with a Lyman receiver sight added and a Swedish Mau. front sight added. The gun is in VG condition accurate, but not a m.o.a. shooter. The second is an all matching Swedish Mau., entirely as issued with thumb wheel/micrometer rear sight. It is 95%+ blue and certainly a 2 m.o.a. or less CB shooter...if you use the right CB: .267" works well.

Can't argue with your logic Dan! I am however no longer in need of any more than I have
at present unless one comes along that is a steal, and my itch and wallet need scratching
at the same time. Right now, that is about as probable as a second virgin birth!
