Cant catch a break

Well as some of you know my father past away a week ago. While we were gone for that there was a storm and it ripped off the gutter on the back side of the house. It is too far up for me to even try to fix. I am not a skinny person. We have someone coming next week to do that.

Now last might I noticed it was getting hot in the house. Went and checked and the air said it was on. But was blowing warm air. The old lady said she heard a buzzing next to the house earlier in the day. So I went outside and hear it. As I walked around the house I see a little smoke coming out of the condenser. I yanked the disconnect. Well the fan motor was locked up and smoking.

So this AM I went to a local hvac supply house to see about a motor. of coarse they don't have it. But will tomorrow. I ask for the price. $239!!!!!!!!!! I told them there is no way that motor cost that much. So I pulled it up on my phone and showed them Grainger had it for $90 and could they match that. They almost called me a liar and there was no way it cost that. So I show them the phone and show them it is the exact same motor. They said sorry and I went to grainger to get it. Sad part is I know the owner of the company. I am going to call him to tell him what happened to see if they might actually gave me the wrong price or what. \\

So I got the motor mounted and was going to replace the capacitor as the motor had a different rating for it. The cap that was called for was not the style in the ac unit. The one in the ac unit is a dual run cap. I think it starts both the fan and compressor. So now I have to figure out if I can use the one in the ac unit now. That was the other reason for contacting the friend at the supply house.

Anyway, I hope since I had 3 different problems it is over with. I firmly believe in the #3 things.

Sooooo, it isn't the same motor.

If you can group a busted gutter and the ac going out with burying your dad, you're a tougher S.O.B. than I am for certain. I'm sorry to year about your run of troubles, here's to hoping it lets up on you for a while.

Actually it was the same one they brought up. It is a universal motor. Same size just 3 different ways to mount it. Plus it is reversible for direction of the spin. 208v you just switch the power leads for direction. I talked to my uncle that is the electrical engineer at the place he works. He said the one in the unit is fine.

DId you ever get your Dad's DD214? Granger is priced OK for corp. accounts, walk-in is what you would pay for a repair guy to replace it.

if you want to save 30 or 40% off of Granger pricing, get an account with their sister company Imperial Supplies and give them Grainger's part number.
