Yeah, must be pretty good. I was really impressed with the Caddy rear end that they used in the Miata. Nice IRS
and big, strong limited slip diff. Pushing that Miata hard in a long slow sweeper, full throttle, I
was barely able to detect the LS working, but no tendency to spin tires or oversteer, just put
the power down.

I do not like the way they look, that angular look isn't something I like, but I'll bet they are some going machines.

Some Camaros from the GM Tech Center show. Both of the owners were hourly employees that worked in the Design Center paint shop. Coincidentally, both guys were named Mike.

This "Z / 28" was literally a "basket case" when Mike bought it from the previous owner, who had started the restoration. It didn't hurt that his family also owned a "body shop". The previous car that he had restored was a 70 Chevelle SS-396 done in black with charcoal grey hood stripes. ......he sold that to some guy from Minnesota that flew into Detroit, then drove it back, only to drop in a 383 Stoker crate motor. :confused:

This custom Camaro was on the cover story of one of the Hot Rod rags, years before. It had a 454 motor with loads of chrome. Wouldn't want to detail that. :eek:

That GT looks a lot like the one that blasted off the other day, on the interstate. Had to have hit
over 120 as it ran off into the distance. No race with anyone, the owner just wanted to let it
out for a few seconds. What sort of power comes in those things these days, not up on them
at all.

Nice looking Camaros. Seems like the engine swap would lower the value, although perhaps he is
saving the original motor and not risk blowing it up running hard. Numbers matching car is worth
a good bit more than one with a different, esp non-correct type, motor.

435 hp in that mustang. I've witnessed one with a programmer that was 500+. These newer cars are getting more of those ponies to the road. I've always been a Corvette guy and owned a 73 with a 454.

A five-speed, AWD Mitsubishi Eclipse from the late '90s with some head work, bigger turbo, and fuel system upgrades will blow most of these old American beauties off the road, at any speed. Just sayin'. I never cared for Mustangs, ever, except for looks, and Ford hasn't made one yet that didn't look really good to me. Owned a '66 hard top, and like every one I have driven since through about 2004 they put the steer wheels on the wrong end...all they know how to do is spin around 180° and fly backwards. Drove a 2002 supercharged Saleen one time when I was doing steering/suspension work at the Ford dealer and that thing was flat out scary. Not power scary, just un-controllable. All it takes is a tiny bit too much go pedal and even a spot of Bubba's tobacco spit on the pavement will throw you in the ditch. This coming from a guy who used to do alignment work for several of the North Texas Viper road race teams and check them himself on a closed road track in Weatherford to make sure the dynamic toe adjustments and shock rates were right...at 160 mph +. Give me a Viper, any day. You have to something really stupid before one of those beasts will get out from under you in a corner.

Back in the day, when I was in school, a friend bought a brand new (1984) Mustang GT with 5.0
That thing (right from the factory) was snappy to say the least...quicker than most (factory cars)on the road at that time.

on a similar note...Ian did you find the 1979 Mustang easy to look at? I sure didn't, it rivaled the ugliness of Ford EXP.

my Dad bought my Little brother one when he turned 16.
some BS about it having a spare engine for the late model we were running at the time.
I told him I wouldn't put that mexican made 302 in the late model on a Bet, and if it did go in the car HE could drive all 120 hp of it around the track.
he just wanted to justify buying little Bro. a car when I had to buy and maintain all of my own.

That is a really serious car. A friend had it made, only owned it for a couple months, unfortunately he passed on before
he could enjoy it very much.

Not the fastest in a straight line by any means, but I'd let any of them try to follow me through a set of corners.
This thing makes more than 1 G lateral, and the mid engine gives really nice balance. Not a super powerhouse,
but under 3000 lbs and does pretty well. 5.1 sec 0-60 is no Hellcat, but pretty adequate.

Still waiting for pix of fiver's 'Stang.

OUCH! Yes, I love the 70 Boss 302, was a real follower of Trans-Am racing and they were impressive, and looked good.
The Mach 1 was way different, but still a nice looking car. I always thought it was a bit reminiscent of the Maserati Ghibli.

By '79.... well, not so much. We won't even talk about the Mustang II.....:eek:

Oh yeah, forgot about the Mustang II, YUCK. Jon, I like the hardtop much better than the fastback.

Sumthin' wrong about Corvette racing flags under the hood of a Jap car, but that's the closest thing we can get to a 427 Cobra anymore. Those Miatas are very heavy cars for their size even with the factory drivetrain in them, they really need some V8 power to make them wake up. A buddy of mine has an LS-6 conversion, very nice but won't handle like your 911 there, not even close.

Other car I had fantasies of owning was a '69 RS/SS Camaro convertable. Can't remember how many Camaros were delivered with the combined RS/SS package, but it was 200 or less. Only thing that beats the RS/SS was the '69 ZL-1; a total of 69 manufactured.
