Running into problems with case head binding in shell holder on periodically basics. Rounds are lc and are being shot in bolt gun with no high pressure signs. Anyone else ever had problem or does anyone have slick fix or cure?

Don't know what cartridge you are having a problem with but in my 50+ years, I have encountered thick rims, extractor grooves that were incorrectly cut, rims that were oversize, and incorrectly cut shell holders. You might measure unfired vs fired brass to see how much expansion there really is, some brass is soft and will expand more. I'm sure others will have some ideas...

LC (military) brass can have the rims bent a little caused by hard extraction in an automatic. Check the rims and in the extraction groove to see if there is any sign of being uneven. If this is the case it can be solved with a small fine file to just remove the high spots.

+1 what Rick says: I find that a lot of shot mil. brass has a slight bend in the rim and will stick in the case holder sometimes, depending on how it is oriented. A file will clean up the area without much work

I've had this problem while priming 45 LC brass with a Lee hand primer. I just rotate the brass a little until the case head slides into the shell holder. Just figured it was fluke. Never thought of inspecting the brass case for problems. Guess I'll do that next time I have this problem. I shoot wheelguns so any unevenness would not be a problem.

Had it happen lots with Lake City 7.62. Usually it's a burr or a very slightly cupped rim like Rick said.

Had all of the above mentioned over the course of many years,
and one addition not mentioned: Dirt, powder flakes, etc, in the
back of the shell holder. I correct with a toothpick to clean out
the back of the shell holder.

My brother and I run into it with different brands of military stuff as well. PITA.

Not just case heads. I have shell holders that won't fit the ram on my Redding press. Min tolerance on one and max on the other.

Thanks guys. A number of the p,Robles cases had burrs the inside of the rims. I believe they were caused when extracting and bolt started turning an case was tight in chamber. It was especilly prevalent when I had used SS pins to clean brass the first time. Does not seem to occur very frequently when using NU Finisjh in vibratory cleaner. Learn as we go!

Just recently, I had the same problem while prepping some LC fired brass for a 6mm/223. A new RCBS shell holder cured the problem. # 10 I believe.
