Didn't know where to post, figured it as much lube as anything else?Cold bore,no pre treat,no foulers,no zero check.

Had work in shop, cause of rain and wind. One thing that needed "doing" was get another rifle out to mess with for awhile. The 22-250's 14 twist gets a little unstable in cold air.

So,grabbed the X7 .308....1-4 Loopy scope,the one with the thick reticle.Found some ammo,mixed range brass.No prep load schedule,size'm and stuff'm.26 g of 4895,311141.

Too nasty and too lazy to post target at 100 yds,and that thick arse reticle is about 1 1/2" wide @100...so,put up target @50.

Like said above, grab rifle stuff 3 rnds in,hold on Buds bags and rip 3 shots off.Go back to work.1/2 hr later, repeat,at the target dot below the first. Both groups were so small, that you can't really call it a cloverleaf. Both were single holes dead nuts in the center of target dot.

So file it as dumb luck,or file it as a data point?50/50 Virginia beeswax/vaseline.

If it keeps doing that....file it under good to go lol. Was that from a cleaned bbl. or left in fired condition?

Fired.

This gun has Weaver mounts and two scopes. One of the boys uses a Redfield 3-9 with JB's for Deer whackin. Then that scope gets put up,1-4 Loopy gets put on and I shoot CB's .

So,prolly a month or so ago,it got the scope change and it's bi-annual cleaning.Confirmed zero, which was dead nuts BTW,....wiped off the greasy fingerprints and shoved in a safe.

Hadn't seen it since that time.Maybe 1/2 dz rounds since the deapclean.

I'll shoot it again in a day or so.

You gotta love it when you get it like that. I do test my lube and load combos year round to make sure it's good to go in any temp. I'm going to shoot or hunt in. You've probably already done that though.
Sounds like you have a very accurate load there.

Had the rig for maybe 5 years?

Tupperware stock was rubbing on the side of barrel.Made a fixture for the BP that was like someone hitting the light switch, design wise.Run a socket cap down through the top of stock's rear action screw....threads into the steel fixture. Two welded "ears" on the other end.....threaded to receive opposed jacking bolts which act upon the stock forend.

Center the fixture quickly on mill table.Touch off on the rr action bolt head. Then use jacking screws to dial or clock in for the forend's taper.

So,took longer to write than use it.But this rifle was what created that fixture.1/2" r. Core bx tooling

So,now the brrl channel is cleaned up on sides.Talk about hillbilly....took a dang business card and shoved it under the fr of action....to see what's what on the free float.Uhh,it's still under there, haha.

Interesting....

Wanting to shoot @100,so put up the 1-4 and mounted a 3-10.

Trying to catch conditions in the 5 or so mph range the last cpl days.Been throwing some pretty decent groups downrange.Using 5 shots, and taking a little more time/effort,still on the Buds bag.

Cpl things come up....gonna anneal this ragtag bunch of range brass as they're looking pretty bad, haha. And we have a goodly amt of prepped/matched 308 brass...but am not ready for that.

Will actually weigh some bullets, sort of under protest, but it will be interesting. And might even bed the action?

But the real finding, now that the thinner reticule is present, with 100 yds is.....holding firm pressure on stock, trying to really concentrate on fundamentals, can shoot 5 around an inch....so whist shooting at the very same group,if I let go of rifle to free recoil, the 6th shot always goes 1 1/2" high @11:00.

Sounds doh,and probably is but, that's telling me there's consistency in the system.

I have had a couple of rifles fall together like that.
I remember putting a scope on littlegirls first 22.
she had been shooting open sights and wanted the cheezy little scope put on.
so I dug everything out and finally got it mounted.
then I took and counted the clicks on the L/R up/down and centered them pretty close to the click count.
we went down to sight the scope in and I pull the trigger at about 40yds and see no bullet hole.
hmm
hey watch down there and see if you see a hit [no hole again]
grr.
lets walk down there.
the little black dot I drew on the paper with magic marker has two tiny holes in the center of it right next to each other and were both covered by the wire thin crosshairs.

Better lucky than good?

Nope, quality practice is how you get good.Have been diligent with the dry fire, offhand practice. And shoot livefire almost every morning before work...which is still 7 day/week.Wife is gone (work) more than she's home.

Big woohoo Friday night here.John Wayne on Netflix and I'm in reloading next cpl days worth of practice ammo.

We have an indoor handgun range.I don't shoot them hardly anymore....rather shoot the CB boltguns and sling arrows.BUT,my next house is gonna have an underground 100 m. rifle range. That's a gauldang fact! This waiting till the Sun's up,ain't gettin it done haha.

Only lubing the space above GC,and the next groove on this bunch....gotta keep the cost down?Bumping up the powder 1 g. offsets that...haha.Did anneal them today, guvmented in,between running some customer parts.

To heck with that whole idea changing one thing at a time.Throw the book at it I say.So gonna slap a Harris on and see if that will help with the torque/recoil management.

Ya'll have a great weekend....I gotta work.
