I'm not sure why I've wanted one of these for some time but,

I got one. Going to put the Burris 3-12 on for load development. It has a very nice trigger for the price. Need some rings & we'll see what it can do with homemade bullets.

Thanks!

Can you find a holster for that?

Looks like they make some to fit it. I'm not sure what we'll wined up with yet. I make our holsters for most. I doubt it would be fun trying to draw this beast out of a regular holster with the 14" bbl. Maybe a drop out type would work. It will depend how far I can shoot it accurate & what type of optics it wears when done. Thinking about trying an aimpoint on it or replace the Burris with a nikon xr, not sure yet.

Hope to try it out soon.

Shilen Match Stainless 6.5 BR, Burris 4x10 EER. This thing would shoot the hair off a gnats hieny at 200 meters.

Very nice looking gun. I've been thinking of one in .357 mag....wish they made a 30/30.
Looking forward to your results.

With the barrel blank you can chamber it in anything that the bolt can be made to work with. I have/had XP's in 6.5 TCU 6 BR, 7BR, 308 Win.

That's a pretty wild handgun, Rick. I almost bought one in 308 a couple years ago.

I ordered sabots in a couple thicknesses for the optima. I doubt I'll be able to hit gnats at all with this but, we're guna try.:D

It certainly looks like it could shoot gnats!

The reason I asked about the holster was that I had a TCA Patriot 45 cal pistol long ago that I had to make my own holster for. No one made holsters for them, at the time. Wouldn't you know it, the one time I could have shot a deer with it, the holster had broken earlier in the morning and so I had it tucked behind me in the back game pocket of my coat. Four huge does lazily scooted across the skidder trail I was on, one at a time. I raised my ML rifle and my thumb slipped off the hammer because I wore gloves. BOOOM! Shot it off into the air over them! Tried to pull my Patriot out for the next shot and got hung up on the lining of the pocket. Boy, what big does! A few years later, a new state record doe was shot in the same area, 198 lbs dressed.

No nap time today but, I did get some Warne qr rings. Mounted the scope installed the sling studs & it should be ready to try out.

The sabots of different thicknesses haven't shown up yet but, I have 1 style here to try. Will also be trying reals, & a maxi-somethingorother.

Cabelas doesn't carry a pistol case or pouch it will fit in.

Thanks for sharing that. We have to learn through the heartbreak sometimes:confused:

I've kinda been curious about these for awhile now. I see they make one that you can buy barrels for kind of the like the old contenders. I've wanted a contender for a long time. Maybe this will scratch that itch.

Looking forward to the update on how it shoots. I'm still thinking hard about one in 357 mag.
They truly are a good looking handgun.

Finally made it to the range today.

Only had a couple hours of daylight left and it was 26°f with typical Nebraska wind(stiff).

So I fired this behemoth @50yd with various jax then cast in sabots over pyro. Best group isn't the best it will do. Had scope down on 3x & could barely load it when I got to the casting but.....rps20161206_194543.jpg
I put 3 in about 1.5-2" and couldn't load it anymore. 6 shots till cleaning required with pyro/sabot. Frozen hands doesnt help. Can you guys believe it freezes here? After trying the lubed conicals in the rifle I'm thinking they might be easier loading for more shots than the saboted.
Anyway the bullet was the noe 454-350 in an mmp hph24 sabot over 100gr pyro. I feel like it can do better. Gonna tryin get back out again this week yet with the conicals.

Cold and wind does NOT help with range work for sure with me. Looks like a good start to me, not bad at all.

I went to clean this up last night & learned the factory installed scope base was loose. That explains a bit.
