Email notifications

Is there a way to turn off the email notifications? I've tried searching through and turning off everything that looks like it would help, but I'm still getting them.

Click your user name. Select alert preferences. Turn them all off.

I lost mine for nearly a week. Just returned, through the night. Had @ 54 to delete.

I've tried doing that several times. Every time I go back to that page, they are all clicked in again. I'll have to try it from a computer at somepoint.
