Ever need a bit of extra heat ?

I made this " Poor Man's Heater " today for my Lyman 45 Lube - Sizer.
My basement ( where I do all my loading ) isn't heated.
If the outside temp is below 30 F, it gets a bit chilly in my basement.
I decided today to add a heating device to my Lube Sizer.
It is held on my bench with a pair of screws.
On in 4 seconds, off in 4 seconds.
A 40 Watt Bulb provides the heat .
If you've ever grabbed a hot bulb, you know how hot they can get ! !
The outside of the lube reservoir tube on the Lyman 45 is black , it absorbs the heat from the bulb very well .

Total cost today was $6.44, some scrap plywood, a few air nails, some wood glue and a couple of screws and a little bit of my time which is not so valuable . Cheap enough :):):):)

What a bright idea.

Is the light at all distracting when sizing?

Not really, however, I thought about taking a piece of aluminum foil and making a " cover " to go around the bulb.

The aluminum foil would help hold in heat and keep the light from glaring in your eyes.

Great Idea Ben! & Yes I would go with a shroud Beside reducing glare you would get more radiant heating.
Photographing a bulb like that makes the room look dark so It appears as big extra glare!.... but I be in reality it isn't that bad with your room lights on I bet

Ben,
Nice! I see I am not the only one who saves every scrap of wood just knowing I will use it for something;). BTW, the Lyman 45 is my favorite sizer and I am rebuilding a second one now, waiting on parts from Lyman to arrive.

The alignment on them seems better . I like my 45 !

I jump start my Stars with a heat gun in the winter time then I don't have to wait for the heat to creep up the lube reservoir.

a piece of reflective foil on that board and wrapped in a semi-circle would help heat the tube a bit quicker.

Yes, that is the next addition.

Having raised 6 daughters--a process that began in 1975--I have never been at a loss for slightly-used blowdryers. More a matter of "triage" than of scrounging. There aren't quite as many of these heat guns running about as there are shoes--but the numbers are kinda close. So, I have had a wide selection of lube/sizer heaters on hand. That heat element that came with the newest Lyman 4500 might be the most superfluous reloading upgrade I have ever obtained. It does WAY too good of a job, even with uber-hard lubes in what passes for cold weather here in the PRC. It might be just the thing in Nome, Alaska.

An aluminum pie plate would make a great reflector if attached to the vertical board behind the bulb, and some of them are kind of satin finished which wouldn't glare in your eyes.

When all my stuff was in my barn I used one of those spring-clamp spot lamps with aluminum reflector and a red, 250-watt heat lamp to heat my sizer...and my hands...when working with Felix lube in cooler weather. I hope you have replacement bulbs because Edison-style bulbs are going the way of the Dodo.

I don't Know: Every week up here in PA Lowes has a sale on old fashion Edison bulbs: I didn't think it was legal but they do!

Good idea, looks great. I just use a goose neck lamp w/40 bulb, close to
the lubersizer. Been doing it that way for years.

I added a reflector to my " heater " a few minutes ago.
I made it out of .014 " thick, Amerimax aluminum.
Pretty sturdy !
