Formulating a pan lube with what I have on hand

Need a pan lube that will be usable from 30°F to 85°.
Velocities from 700 fps to 1450 fps.
160 grain Lyman RN w/2 deep lube groves.
Need to do 350 of them.

No cash. Toaster oven took a crap so no pc right now.

Here is what I have that may be some what usable. Half a box of Ball canning parafine, 4 oz lanolin, 1/2 a toilet wax ring(don't ask), 4 oz jar of vic salve, about 2 oz of Lamar's pan lube, 5 cheap tea candles and a half bottle of STP.

I will be coating these with a thinned down version of BLL to prevent corrosion during storage.

Slightly used, but not soiled . LOL
Since we went there.

Discovered a crack in the bowl during seating, before it was too late. Saved some of the clean wax.

Hey Mitty, for those velocity parameters wouldn't a simple tumble lube be faster and easier than trying to pan lube?
Might be, I do have some alox and a watered down version of BLL. That I sometimes do my tumble lube lee bullets in.

I just kinda figured since the bullet design was for pan lube, and not a lot of bearing surface. That traditional was the way to go.
Since I had the stuff for that dug out, and the hot plate set up, any way.IMG_20220920_215516589.jpg

Ok so I had a half pound of paraffin, between the tea candles and Ball Canning wax mixed it all together, except the STP. Just put a couple tablespoons of STP.
Still hot.
Got to go to work. My wife found a bout another pound of Paraffine.
If it is a little thin when I get back I will just add more paraffin till I get it where I want it.

You guys are just too much!
Na I'm good, thanks though.
I just want to see what these bullets made with that mould can do.
Going to try a few with this concoction.Who knows, I may luck out it is only for the 6 inch 357revolver, by the way.
If they do not work out I will wait two weeks. Till my first check. Then either buy a toaster oven at Goodwill or get the stuff to make a proper pan lube.
I have plenty of other stuff to keep me Buisy till then.
Like Ingot making.

14oz of Vaseline
18oz of paraffin
3 tblsp STP
Heat to clear stir to blend pour in the pan .

I've used it as hot as 95° and it stayed put but a candle warmer is all you need for mixing . Shot some at 10° one New Years day . Ive run it 2640 fps the bullet didn't hold enough to make it 24" but the barrel was clean all the way to 21" in a 222 .

Darrs is 1#,1#,2 tblsp . It's very gooey and wick's at 85° .

Thanks, all I have to.do is get Vasoline from the dollar store. I already have plenty of STP. Thanks to a worn out push mower I had limped thru last season.
A few different formulas were posted here, but upon searching I could not find a recipe that listed exact amounts. With had what is in my cupboard for ingredients.
I scraped up a few bucks in change, so going to stop on the way to work
and Vasoline.

I am really set on pan lubing these bullets. Just for nastalgia and experience if nothing else.

Think I will just dump the stuff I made already. It's just bit too soft, and sticky.
Can't get the consistancy right. Plus it smells of vapo rub.

I have a box of old broken crayons. Think I could weigh a couple of them out with the paraffin, to add some color?? Or would I screw up the formula.

BLL only will work fine. A really cheap GOOD lube is mazzola (or equal). Trick - seat the bullet until the mouth rim is just over the LG. Use a toothpick with 2 drops of oil, drip into the LG. Finish seating. NO leading at all. I used it in 30/30 @ 1700 fps185 RD PB bullet. Do NOT get oil on the bullet nose, you won't be able to hold on to it. Bottle of mazzola gives several hundred years of lube.

crayons suck.
just mix the parrafin and vaseline.
if they don't got no vaseline grab a little bottle of mineral oil, it's just vaseline without the extra wax.

many of todays candles [the smelly ones] are soy wax, it will add a smoothness to the parrafin and take out that crumbly chippy parrafin has.

Got two 7.5 oz jars of generic petroleum jelly. It had 2% Cacoa butter. It's a small amount just enough to give it a scent. That is a vegetable fat by the way.

And a 18 oz box of Ball Paraffin.
STP is in the Barn shed.
So ready to mix up a batch soon.
