HI GUYS !!!!

Sorry I haven't been able to participate as much as I would have liked to....work has been piling up like crazy .....for some reason..some people can't seem to spend enough money...another time..another...story..

So.. the only shooting I have been able to do was some quick in and out plinking sessions....I checked to see if the smallish group I got with my Remington 700 VS 308 using PB 299's was a freak ...apparently not...(see the appropriate targets)...

I then tried a couple of groups using my two grouve Springfield MK 1 ..... PB 299's and PB 30 H...it's the "Shoot & See" target..not too bad for an overcast damp day and battle sights..

Then I went on to my Rock Island '03 with a good 4 grouve HS barrel.....that was this morning 36%,25 K wind ...straight in my face ...fingers froze up solid...but I got these off....

The molds were PB per Ben's instruction, but done on a wood working drill press...as you can see from the photos my work was less then perfect......

My lessons;
1...don't use a wood drill press
2...Buy a PB mold
3...Listen to Ben
4...for paper work they are as accurate @ 100 yds as gas checked .... either CU or AL, for me anyways..
5...Shoot even if the weather is lousy
6...use a softish alloy ACCOWW's to 4-4-92
7..because they are going so slowly (1300fps) even bad bullets shoot well
& 8...Listen to Ben...

Sorry about not being able to organize the photos..Imgur no longer works for me....Dan

I have missed your range reports, always like to read along.

#7 is something I've played with. Kind of a what can you get away with & still have descent results. At under 1200 & 50 yards I was able to get bullets seated upside down in the same group, not a great one but it worked. I was shocked they even hit the backer. The difference is clear when you back away from the target though. Once past 100-200yd fugetaboutit the details matter just as much if not more.

Wish I'd have done #2 long ago...wait, that doesn't sound quite right, but it's true.:)

Many of the competitors at the CBA use PB bullets with really good accuracy at 200 yards. Many 1/2" MOA groups have been shot at 100 yards with PB bullets. I always start with a PB when working up a accuracy load, that is if I have one. While gas checks are not that costly per round, there is always that extra step in using them. Most times I start with as cast PB and either hand or pan lube them. With groups like that you should consider competing in the local CBA or postal matches. Well done, Dan.:)

That is very good shooting, I have been thinking about PB for a while and this is encouraging. Thanks.

I've had pretty good results with the same PB bullet in .308 using Red Dot. I'll give Universal a try next time. Awesome shooting!

In my haste I forgot to mention one thing...I found that with PB bullets.. (so nice to be able to spell that word correctly)..if I don't run a .30 cal brush on the end of a cordless drill in and out of the case neck ..after neck sizing ..the old powder residue makes it hard or harder and I mean harder to seat the bullet..also doing this seems to even out the seating pressure ....and I believe the eventual release pressure or grip ..whatever you want to call it.....

One other thing if I may..Universal don't care if it's hot, cold,in the back of the bus or front..it shoots the same...

PB's open up a new world of economical, accurate, low recoil shooting.
Pretty hard to ask for more IMO.

Good report and good shooting!

To throw .02 cents on the table,I go with #5.With the stipulation that it's "part" of the process development.Only testing on "blue bird" days doesn't show how your rig holds up in wind...and temperature gradients.

Actually Paul...I see it more as going back in time..these days we jump ahead so fast that we easily forget what other have done in the past ....
They may have used single shot firearms ..we have the advantage of bolt actions and better barrels..shooting PB is combining the best of both times..
I was hesitant to try them because they were primarily being used at short ranges...but obviously they are good performers at longer ranges..100 yds anyways..
one of these slow days I am going to try them at 200...
Just over thinking the drop right now....I'm getting about 5 to 5.5" difference in my gas checked vs PB @100 yds...don't know if I have to double that for 200 or what..
but I do know I'll have to bring a bigger piece of paper..:)
