GatorCheck 41T gaschecks for SAECO #415

I was getting in a little Lūb Monkey action this morning with some SAECO #415, which are 220gr TC GCs. Not having anything but a bag of GatorCheck 41T (Thin for Lyman), I grabbed my 41Ts and strode into history...

If the SAECO 415 has a nice base, very crisp, then the 41Ts will grip the shank. Mostly. There were some where I could turn the gascheck with light pressure. But if the shank is a little rounded, the 41T will not grip, and stays in the H&I die.

Again, The 41Ts were bought for use with a Lyman 410610. There is NO problem that I am aware of with using them on the 410610.

Sent a note to http://gaschecks.castpics.net/ asking about a thicker GC for use with a .41 Rem Mag.

I have always used my aluminum checks for the .416 rifles, they swage right down for the 41 Mag

The SAECO #534 top punch fits beautifully, no mark is visible on the TC nose. This is sized with a .410 H&I die, I thought these dropped at .410 from the mould, but you see the drive bands are shiny. When I can find a .411 H&I it should just lube and install the GC.

Got a reply from DJ's Corner Gas Check Sales, the .416 should do 'er.

We have a "surplus" .401 H&I,because I suffer from CRS....bought the second one not remembering...we already had one.

I can enlarge it.But am not sure about whether it should be reamed,THEN honed

. or

Just hone it?

Will say,it ain't a matter of convenience.It's a ? on the metrology side of things.The whole,"how round is round"?

My gut feelings are to ream then hone.Tooling isn't a problem...

ream then polish.
10 thou is a lot of polishing.
get it within about 1-2 thou then polish out with finer grits.
