Getting closer

I'm getting closer to the day that I'll start my grandson Trevor reloading 38 Specials. He will go through a length of time that he MUST reload under my supervision. He is 12 now. There will be a day when he will be able to do it on his own, BUT NOT RIGHT NOW.

Dad and Leo Reyes took the training wheels off when I was 15 years old. I was loading AA hulls with Win 209s, 1-1/8 oz. of 6s, 7-1/2s, or 9s on an old MEC machine with WW white wads and 18.0 grains of Red Dot, and at age 22 bought my own MEC 600 Jr. and continued in that vein for quite some time. About that same time (1977) I bought a Reloader Special press.....and into metallics I went. Casting started in 1981 to source bullets for 32 revolvers, and THAT took off in a big hurry. 40 years later, here I am--still at it.

Here's hoping that Trevor's grandkids have as much fun shooting and reloading as we do.

I was loading 22-250 on my own when I was 12. Man, those were the days! I’m sure you grandson will be fine and also sure he has a great teacher. You’ll both cherish these times forever!

Ric, I'm still up for adoption :)

You got it, Ben, making memories. Making the most out of life and sharing it with the new generation is what it's all about.

I learned on my own at 14 from a couple of books and loaded by kerosene lamp, used a pen light to check for double charges.

Walter, in time he will get to learn from you. He will be lucky to have someone teach him to shoot, bum around the hills, and enjoy life.

And rockhound and chip glass and learn to be a woodsman and all sorts of good stuff I'm sure.
