Gun for squirrels

You folks don't seem to realize that guns are crew serviced weapons for squirrels. Pump up requires 34 , but the 10/22 only five.

Well that's a good one. I used Winchester 1890 with shorts for years for the reason Rick states in his post. The little buggers get together and you have trouble, that's why I keep the 10/22's locked up but keep the pump in the corner.
Tamaiskirus hudsonicus the Alaskan brand of Squirrel is a small guy, but when they get into preparing for winter, watch out.. They will steel every bit of fiber glass insulation in your building if they can get to it. When I first came to this country the place I moved into had a purple fuzzy toilet seat cover in the outhouse. I guess the folks that sold the place put that cover on as a "dress up" for the outhouse. Look in cold country you must have something (standard is a piece of Styrofoam cut out) to insulate the seat from your bare butt, trust me on this one. Well come fall, which lasts about from the last week in August to mid September that purple seat cover kept getting smaller and thinner, by the end of September I had to install a Styrofoam seat. Problem was I was working 7 day a week, leaving before dawn, returning after dark. The next summer I went out with a 12 Gage and blasting squirrel nests around the house. Two nest had purple fluff in the nest remains..
I was remodeling a cabin a couple years later and while removing the ceiling visqueen vapor sheeting, from one corner, which was covering the foil backed insulation, when I gave the visqueen a yank, the entire plastic and foil insulation came down all at once. this was a 20 x 20 cabin and all but one corner about 20% of the ceiling had NO insulation left, just the foil paper. But, it was replaced with small pine cones and mushrooms. The folks said it was hard to heat. I'm not surprised. I hauled about 4 wheel barrel loads of squirrel treasures.
That's how destructive they can be. So I shoot them every chance I get with what ever is handy. I once "barked" a Squirrel with a 405 Winchester 95. Another time that sticks out quite well was a Easter Sunday morning when a furry vandal was sitting on a log end of our house chewing on something, when I grabbed a 410 I had out. Well I lined up so as not to damage the house and let go. There was fur and pieces raining down very nicely. I had been plagued by this bugger for a while, so when I went inside all smiles my wife was in tears. Well she loves little furry critters, and she was sitting on the couch having her first cop of coffee in the early morning sun watching this cute little squirrel, when it vaporized. Bad timing, and to big a gun.
Well my go to rifle is a Model 12 Remington for squirrels. Once I discovered Remington 12's I sold the Winchester 1890's. like them both, but, the 12 is about as sweet as it gets.

Oh my goodness creosote, that brings back memories. We spent a year and a half doing hist. pres. work on an 1835 house.....Had plenty of squirrels to get rid of,used an old Benjamin.

But in our travels we found a big ole rat skeleton. I set him on the front porch at the top of the stairs..... with a doo rag and half a Marlboro red hangin from his lips.He was the meet N greet, haha.
