Hand loads or store bought?

I won't go into my personal experience but I can assure that not contesting an allegation will land you on a list that will restrict your rights . If that isn't a criminal sanction , I don't know what I would call it .

An allegation is not an accusation. In the process of contesting an allegation I had to literally force a court date to either drop the endless investigations of fraudulent allegations or charge the baseless allegation.
Maybe that's not how it's supposed to work , I suspect that it isn't . 5 people lost their jobs probably not for my case alone but shortly after it's closure and an inquiry.

Like many of the examples of how things are supposed to be done vs what actually happens my experience may have been not how things are supposed to be .

If I happen to carry right now it's a J-frame .38 airweight loaded with 135gr factory hollowpoints. It's a load with a proven track record that shoots as well as anything our of a snubbie. I wouldn't hesitate to carry my own handloads again - it used to be the equivalent of the "FBI" load of a 158gr HP. I was worried about the bullet lube melting in hot weather, but if I go back to that load it will be with a PC bullet. Legal issues never entered my mind in ammo selection.

I use both. Mostly factory in my carry handgun(s) because I can't do any better with my reloads. I trust the ammo I carry. It has a proven track record and happens to be the same stuff my department issued. If I am forced to use a rifle it will probably be with one of my handloads. Most of my rifles have never seen a factory or military arsenal round....ever.

but if I go back to that load it will be with a PC bullet.

Unless laws in your state have changed you might automatically be in deep poo for making PC bullet ammo in the first place. However, a law-abiding, business-owing, married, double-amputee in his 70s will automatically get a different consideration and investigation than a law-abiding, working, single, young, healthy man who competes in sanctioned handgun competitions, regardless of the specifics of the incident.

Personally, other than my time in the military, I probably haven’t shot 1,000 rounds of factory ammo since 1960.
I trust my reloads and as has been pointed it, in a “cut or shoot” situation it don’t matter. That includes shotgun shells. Maybe a couple boxes of express loads for varmints which take special components. Cheaper to buy./beagle

The last I knew, some states still have laws on the books prohibiting coated bullets as a sideways attempt to ban the old KTW bullets which were ironically designed by and for Cops to increase bullet penetration on hard, but not armored targets such as car bodies. The KTW had a mild steel core surrounded by hardened brass. I seem to recall that the "hardened brass" jacket was actually an architectural bronze. These bullets performed as designed but were proven to damage gun barrels so a teflon coating was added to prevent bore damage.

The media got ahold of this information and stirred up the public with gruesome tales of these "Cop Killer" bullets. So A bullet that was designed by and solely manufactured for Cops got outlawed by zealous politicians seeking to build a reputation for themselves as Police and Public safety crusaders. I don't believe they actually fit the military description of armor piercing in the first place. To make the ban complete, "teflon" coated bullets of any sort were also banned in many areas. IIRC, this also created widespread controversy when S&W released the Nyclad bullet as well.

Hollywood also played this situation up to an extreme level as well. BTW, I see that the KTW predated soft body armor use by Police.

But if we don't live in the state of California, are these chemicals known to cause neutering of primer anuses? :p
No, Ian, any and all chemicals cause cancer, neutering, and all other known maladies only in California. The other 49 states and the rest of the universe are not effected in any way.

My question is: Has the Proposition 64 warning label caused anyone to not get cancer?

And, to add absurdity to absurdity: The chemicals in the ink used to print the warning labels causes cancer.

I generally carry my 380 Ruger LCP. Armed with Ruger ARX ammo. Because that's the gun I bought, trained with and passed my carry with.
The Rugar ARX "Phillips bit" ammunition is used. Because that is the ammunition I bought with the gun. I have not ran out yet. I shoot up the magazine full once year, rotating the rounds every time I pull it. To practice.
Always practice at least 6 times a year with lead loads that I have emulated the Point Of Impact with.

Now if I am going to the bad side of a big town, at night.
I carry the unserialized homemade Poly(polymer)80. Glock model 19 type.
With night sights, loaded with 125 grain home made lead Powder Coated Bullets. With mixed brass, pushed by Red Dot gun powder. (All totally legal here in Ohio). Why??? It, or the load, has never failed after hundreds of rounds.I trust my build. 15+1 in the gun with no other mags necessary. The trillium night sights are the cats meow after dark.
But still carry the Ruger LCP for back up. New York reload, lol.
If I can't defuse a situation in 23 rounds, the I am in a situation, way past my abilities to survive.

So I guess I ride both ends of the shaky legal issue spectrum.
Let me say first I value life, I believe everyone has the possiblity to change. So shooting someone would be the last resort. Fact might not even use it to defend myself. My life is not that important, and almost over.
But....
Don't really care if I go to Jail at this point in life. If I had to defend myself or someone. Don't have that much to loose. Don't give a hoot about what people "think" about me. God is my judge.
Been in jail once, for defending my wife and child, unarmed. Before the charges were reduced to disturbing the peace.
Been in Quarantine for 3 months. Quarantine was way worse. At least jail you have someone to talk to.
It was not that bad once I got used to it.

Anyone still carry the "Black Talon" ammo in their carry guns.
I've got several boxes of this in several calibers.

I just hit reply before finishing, I still have Black Talons in a few of the calibers that Iuse. For those that I don't ,I usually shoot Winchester SXT's. several years ago I talked to aWinchester rep that stated the SXT's were basically the same round without the black coating, & they seem to function the same , at least for me anyway.

I have been involved in court trials two times. Once as an expert witness, and once in the jury. Both were civil cases. Both times the plaintiff lost.

I have been a spectator at a few trials. My daughter is a lawyer. She was a prosecutor for 12 years. She is now a criminal defense attorney.

I still have some Federal Nyclad 125s and 158+P SWC HPs for the 38s, probably have some Black Talon and Edorado Starfire .45s, but will use Hornady Critical Duty in my Sig P365.

IIRC, S&W marketed Nyclad in the '70s, so before Federal, and Federal is now marketing powder coated to limit lead exposure.
