Happy Father's day gentlemen !

Bear with me .
My grandfathers didn't live long enough to know if I was a good parent or not . One grand mother had in part a full dress GI pallbearer assy , I doubt she was impressed , proud but unimpressed .
My Dad not long before he passed said " Bill I wasn't much of a role model or a teacher . Somehow you managed to become the Dad I never could . You doted on the kids , taught them how to work , respect , manners that even impressed your Aunt Ginny . There's not a thing , I don't think , those kids wouldn't do for you . They've even grown up and they're doing well so far too . I don't know how you learned it or how you taught it ."
I replied "It was you . You were the only mentor I ever had ."
I never really thought much about it , I just did what I had to do to stay the course . It worked out . Sometimes I think back and maybe I was too hard , then I look with pride and I'm impressed with what I see in my kids . If my Dad was really such a poor example We need more bad examples like him . vs180729-002.png
That's me 2nd from the right and Dad to my left on our last , 1 of 4-5 , just us boys camp outs .

My almost 75-yo dad is helping take care of my two babies today while I'm hooked to machines ten stories up. I'm gonna stop right about there.

My father used to come to Fairbanks to visit ever summer from about 1978 to 1994 when he was incapacitated in a car accident here in town. He would spend from about May till early September with us every year. CR and I started a salt water charter business in 1989 two weeks before the Exon Valdez hit Bligh Reef. We worked together in the business along with my wife Karyn and two sons Talon and Cole. Lived in a houseboat and CR lived in his motor home.
When I left California in 1974, we were at each other all the time. After they retired and started visiting, we became absolute best friends besides being Father and son.
He had a brain injury from the 94 car accident which required 24 hour care. We lost him in 2000 shortly after we lost our youngest Son Cole. It was the toughest year ever. All I got to say is, I better go before Karyn. I'm have been a very lucky man to know people like them

Dad's dad passed when I was young, alway remember him and Mom's dad as very quiet and honerable men. Dad was quiet but always there in a support way even though he worked and traveled a lot. Sure miss him.
