Don’t need no stinking loading gate. Just have to remember that switching from the Marlins to the Henry’s.

2400? In a 45-70? Oh yea, that is a sweet powder.

Somebody snuck a post in on me, too.

Congratulations on your new toy! I almost had a heart attack when I saw the thread title and Brad's avatar...then I remembered that the avatar was just shown as the last person to post, not the one who started the thread.

If I bought a Henry I would have a heart attack too!

Funny how our Savage 99's do not have loading gates either....
Read a little about the history of the original Henry shooters and how they refused to change to the model 66 due to the unsafe practice of running live ammo though the chamber. Had to carry a screwdriver to unload that Winchester safely.
I am not bothered either way...

A 99 Savage doesn't need one, neither does a bolt action. A lever action does, unless you want a 22.
Aesthetics demand a loading gate.

I understand the mixed feelings for the Henry minus the loading gate. My favorite lever gun is the Winchester 1886. I own several Marlin 1895’s. In my eyes the Henry’s are beautiful rifles. Once I started shooting my B.B. 45 Colt and feeling that action and seeing the accuracy the fact it is missing a loading gate does not bother me one bit. It’s just a different tool in my toolbox of firearms. The traditionalists in me likes a loading gate. Same reason I reckon I love the single action revolver.

I like a single-action revolver because I can load/unload it without switching hands. Well, that and I just like them anyway.

Hopefully end of next week. To darn cold and windy last week off. Maybe I can get some shooting with the 1886 also. That one is gorgeous! My most favorite lever gun ever!
