Holster suggestions

I would like to get you suggestions, opinions on a decent holster for a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt. I would like a OWB, I see Ruger has some on their site but haven't looked closely at them and would like to hear from those that have one what they like or dislike.
I just came across a box of Silvertips and figure this would be a good reason for a holster.
Thanks, Longone

I can recommend Ashman Saddlery for a very reasonable priced custom holster. He has a Facebook page and if you email him he will answer. I'll get some pictures in a minute.

I like cross-draw holsters for my 7.5" revolvers. Shorter barrels wear better on the hip IMO. El Paso Saddlery is where I get most of mine.

Only holsters I own for my 4 5/8 BH is a nylon Uncle Mike's.:(
For utility work it suites me fine. I'm a function over form kinda of guy on some stuff.

Speaking of form over function, all I have for my 7.5 Blackhawk at present is a Civil War Reproduction that i bought years ago for a cap& ball, the type with a flap. fits perfectly with a bit of protection for hunting out in the elements.

BBL length? I have a cpl I really like. Can send some pics. And if you like them, have a local guy who can duplicate at what I am sure is a great price (based on some knife sheaths he has made for me!).

6" or over, needs a crossdraw, shorter can work on strong side.
Lots of good brands. I have a number of Hunter holsters, and like their quality, look and
fit for a reasonable price.
My CCW holsters are mostly Milt Sparks.

5.5" barrel. Thanks for the suggestions, never gave much thought about cross draw but with a longer barrel it makes sense. Pics? If you have the time to post them I'd be happy to look at them and get ideas.

The other advantage to crossdraw is that if you are hunting with a rifle slung on your right (right handed) you are
banging the rifle on the pistol all the time, very inconvenient. Crossdraw fixes that and is especially convenient for
horseback, if you hunt on horseback.

Add a chest holster to your consideration for a hunting rig. IIRC the model I'm thinking of is by Freedom 475.

In my youth, I tramped thru the Everglades with my Blackhawk 10" in a strong side cowboy rig. Several snakes and other critters could attest (if they were still alive) that I was not slow in getting that gun into action, nor was it a bother to carry. Today, I would consider a chest cross draw for the 10", but would want to be careful about sweeping any fellow hunters. With a 5.5" bl, I would use a strong side.
All of the above comments are good, but in reality, try a few and see what is comfortable for you.

All of mine are 4" or 4 5/8". Agree with above, much longer and cross is prob better. Can send pics if you want for my shorter ones. Couple are ones for 5 1/2" I cut off to fit my 4 5/8"

Looks like Ashman Saddlery does some very nice work. Went to FB and it appears you need to be a member to send a message. Is there any other way to contact him?

If anyone else would like an email for Ashman Saddlery pm me and I'll send it to you. It's Josh's email so I hate to just put it out.

For a revolver Cross draw seems to work naturally for me. For autos I like the mid right back carry If they are small

I am giving a cross draw some thought, that was a good suggestion. I have a worn out shoulder and pulling anything from the 4-5 o'clock position is not real comfortable. Cross draw might just be the answer.
