I found a Savage 99 in 308, I might get it, always wanted one.

I have had one of these on my "to buy" list for a long time. I have always heard how accurate they were for a lever action. If I get it it will be a cast bullet rifle. What am I saying? All my rifles are cast bullet rifles. I hardly ever load J-bullets anymore.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
If it were me and could swing it I would buy it and cross it off my list. Make hay while the sun shines.

If ever a design was in need of reincarnation, this is one. No Mattel-toy elements or Picatinny rails, thank you. Maybe Miroku could be prompted to do with these what they have done with the Win 92s.

Dream leverguns--Savage 99 in 358 Win, Win 95 in 9.3 x 62. The latter with a shotgun butt, please--286 grain SPs at 2400 FPS with a crescent buttplate would be just a bit much. If I find a Rising Sun 1895 in 30-06 for the right price, JES Rebore will get the call.

my bud had one these [probably still does] that he used to loan to me for rabbit hunting back in the day.
I always took the shotgun which he considered cheating on my part.
so he'd bring his savage along and make me carry it, I think he liked seeing their heads pop when the 150gr bullet hit it.

99's have been my favorite for many many years.. beautiful pieces.

Find a picture of one with a perch belly stock..wow..that's a gun..

I have had a few in 308...sweet things those are..

So isn't the Winchester 88...it's a little slicker with better lock up..not dising the 99..just saying.
Plus you can put a scope on it..

Well, I missed it. I was trying to research it's vintage a little and waited too long. Maybe one day I will learn.

I have a relatively new to me .300 Savage 99. Still working on finding a good hunting
load, using them fancy bullets with hard outsides. No chance to work up a cast load
yet. Too many projects...... a GOOD thing.
