I think I bought an H&G .

Yes that's right .......I have no clue what I bought ........

It's a little raggedy burro but if I got what I think I did I scored an 8 cavity H&G #68 ..... The sprue plate looks right . The handles and screws look right . Of course the bullet looks right .

I'll get some pictures after I get it cleaned up . The poor thing looks like it was left under the 53 Hudson in about 72' ........ Are there any marks I should be looking for ? I seem to remember them being unmarked .....it wasn't something I expected to own but when I picked to say I'd handled one the seller made me an offer I couldn't refuse . So even if it isn't an H&G I'm not hurt on it .

a good bullet is a good bullet I don't care if the mold was whittled by a 6 yo.
remember the 68 has a slight bevel on the base and the 69 is square.

I think the real early ones were not marked [and,, thinking,,maybe just made by gibbs]

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I have one that sounds a lot like that, no name anywhere. Awesome mould, takes forever to get it up to temp but rains bullets when it gets warmed up.

I have one that I am reasonably sure is a fairly early SAECO 2 cav. Not a mark of any kind on it but it does have a SAECO sprue plate that I'm not sure is original to the mold and SAECO handles fit it.

My only Hensley&Gibbs mold I have I bought in either late 83 or early 84..... I think they were in Oregon? at the time. I was interested in a 300 grain Keith bullet #328?. So I wrote ol' Elmer a letter.... Didn't get a quick answer like one would get on a subject about 'his stuff'! I thought something was wrong....... Then a letter from Salmon, Idaho showed up! Only it was Lorraine (Elmer's wife) that wrote it. She said that she was 'sure' Elmer knew all about the 300gr version and that she would save my letter for Elmer when he recovered from his stroke.... That line hit me hard as I didn't know it had happened.. Well we all sadly know the ending......
I ordered the mold and waited. It was a 4 cavity..... Two cavities #328 and two cavities #258. #258 is Keith's actual design for the .41 Mag at 220 grs. The 300 grain .44 shot well but I stayed at 250 or so later. I still cast my .41's from those other two cavities though!

Great find RB !!!!! Clean it with tender loving care..... Check alignment pins carefully.... And you will still have a mold I rank at the top even to this day!

I have a 10 cavity H&G #258. Once hot you can really crank out the bullets.

WOW!!!! Consider yourself blessed!
4 cavities was a LOT for me in those days...... You don't know the times I've wished all 4 were the #258 though!:sigh:

While I was at CB the bullets from my H&G were used as samples for a group buy from Miha. I got the brass 4 cavity version w/ 3 sets of pins. Haven't used it yet but the next time I need .41 bullets it will be from that and not the H&G. One of these days I will need money and sell it.

I'd rig up a spring and wire system to the ceiling if I had a 10 cavity steel mold to deal with.

I got enough hand oil on it to get the dust rubbed off .
Still looks as bad as when I first picked it up .

Made it home ..... trying weekend but I got a killer deal .........

Grossly misidentified . What little has been uncovered is good news .
I didn't buy a replacement or a spare for a mould I already have .
I needed another 45 ACP bullet like ....... Well yeah , I didn't need or even want one but at that price I couldn't let some ham fisted bubba destroy it more .
It's a H&G , Murphy Or , so it's not any older than me .
It's #130 . 45 ACP 185 PB SWC .
I have the late undrilled handles .
(Correct search terms and guidance here helped a lot)
In 75' the Catalog price was just $63.50 delivered .
In April of 82' it was $244 and another $30 for air express .
That makes me feel much better about those $90 NOE 5 bangers .

Got it swimming in Rem oil tonight . I don't know where my jug of evporust has gotten off to but when I find it or replace it I'll get it a bath in Dawn and into the evap o rust bath . The cavities under the sprue side are dark but I don't think they're hurt .

What do you guys think about low pressure blasting with walnut hull or similar? Maybe even glass beads that were pretty fresh?

Definitely an H&G 130, I think you can save it. Degrease and evapo-rust is exactly what I'd do, or Naval Jelly, to dissolve all the rust. Pits in the cavities can be filled with Frankford Arsenal mould release spray painted in there with a brush and then a bullet coated in Comet paste spun to lap most of it back out.

some guy's really like the 130 and some guns are not a fan.
I think the little nose shape is a hit or miss thing.

I definitely would not bead blast it, I wouldn't even use soda blasting.
strip it down and get the rust off it, then work on the cavity's like Ian said.
fill in the divots and smooth out the high spots.

The second cavity from the hinge looks like it could cause some problems later. I think I'd be soaking it in Kroil for about a week, and wait for a snowy day to give it a good cleaning.
I cleaned up a 1911 like that once, for a buddy who left it in the spare tire compartment of an old Jeep Cherokee, one whole winter. It wasn't pretty at the outcome, but he's still shooting it.
