Idea for this site

I had a though that might be usefull. What about a section dedicated to load data for molds sorted by manufacture? Lyman rcbs saeco noe ect. Thoughts ?
I know I am often looking for data online for data for my bullet mold number. I was thinking that over time if might bring in some fresh members.

That would be a huge undertaking, because each bullet will work in many rifles, so how would you make it flow correctly? Take a 311041 for example, you can use it in almost every 30 cal rifle.

I am not bashing this idea as it is a GREAT idea, just hard to do.

That's more of a searchable database application such as Castpics.net has than it is a BB application. If you have load data you'd like to share, put it in the cast bullet shooting/testing section and it can be found later via a site search if it gets buried.

Forgive the question, but I'm not a reloader, just the technical guy who's helping out.

Can you give me an idea of what types of search strings you'd use? The search engine that runs this site won't index things that are overly short, for performance reasons. I've had to tweak it on other sites, for the sake of the data folks need to be able to search on.

To search a bullet then load it would need to be similar to this imo:

22 cal
7mm
30 cal
Etc etc

Click on 30 cal, sub "folder"

311041
Rcbs 30-180-fn
311416
311331

Click on 311041 with sub folders:
30-30
30-06
308
7.62x54R
Etc etc

Click on 30-06 "folder"

311041
.311
Carnuba red
10 gr unique

It would involve at minimum 600 folders/links to get the popular calibers. It would be a great rescource but then how do you add in wierd bullet molds like my 31-255J? You would be constantly updating the folders/links.

Okay, that example shows me an issue -- "7mm" is shorter than it would search for.

I've changed it so it'll find 3-letter words.

Where and how would you put in the clickable system? Who would have access to add new molds and such?

Not only could this be a great load data source but it could also be a very comprehensive list of molds.

Instead of 22 cal, 7mm, 30 cal you could list by mold maker:

Accurate:
Noe:
Mihec:
Lee:
Lyman:

Then open up [Accurate]
31-150-J
31-255-J
34-250-A
Etc etc

This would allow you to search for your mold maker first, then open it up and the molds are listed from smallest to largest diameter. That may help your search arguments

To make a system with a hierarchy like you describe would require custom coding. Lots of it.

What I did is make it so that if someone posts "7mm Lee molds" and someone searches on "7mm molds" it'll come up.
