Inexpensive rifle rack for the range.

For "cobbled together" that's a dandy rack Ben. Later you could even add wheels or maybe a little shelf.

Our gun club has racks & they aren't as nice.

I shoot at a private range.
Usually I shoot either by myself or with 1 other person.
Works just fine for us.

that's a lot better than the 1/2 a truck gun rack I screwed to the window frame above the picnic table at our local range.

Dale,

It's made from junk scrap.
If I had nicer wood, the job would look better.

Of course, pretty is as pretty does.
It works GREAT.
That is about all I can say.
Once we're at the range, I guess we really don't have to have a $250 rifle rack
to hold our rifles while they are cooling.

Simple is often the right answer. Elegant solutions need not be elegantly built.

When it works, it works. Anything more is gilding the lily.

The part I like best is the shape and size of the barrel...um...I guess "slots". It seems like most racks cut the barrel slots so narrow a lot of barrels won't fit down in them. I picture them being fine until they carpet them, then they step back and say " oops". OK, I did that.

The wide Vee shape should help with another thing. I see this all the time at the range: Someone grabs for their rifle, but gets a poor grip on the forend and it drops back into the rack. Almost always it hits the slot or catches the edge of the opening, but sometimes they clatter into the next rifle. The big Vee should catch any that squirm loose from sweaty fingertips.

The next time I make or help with a rack at the club, I'll cut it like that. There is always plenty of space on the top board, but we are all used to how they "should" look.
