The part I like best is the shape and size of the barrel...um...I guess "slots". It seems like most racks cut the barrel slots so narrow a lot of barrels won't fit down in them. I picture them being fine until they carpet them, then they step back and say " oops". OK, I did that.
The wide Vee shape should help with another thing. I see this all the time at the range: Someone grabs for their rifle, but gets a poor grip on the forend and it drops back into the rack. Almost always it hits the slot or catches the edge of the opening, but sometimes they clatter into the next rifle. The big Vee should catch any that squirm loose from sweaty fingertips.
The next time I make or help with a rack at the club, I'll cut it like that. There is always plenty of space on the top board, but we are all used to how they "should" look.
