Is this enough lube?

IMG_1133.JPG This is my first attempt at running a tumble lube designed bullet through a conventional lube sizer. My lube is 2500+. And I'm just wanting to know if this is enough lube to handle this 240 grain 44 magnum slug at 1000-1100 ft./s. Should I add a little Ben's liquid lube to this? What do you think ?

For what it's worth I run a lee tl 160 through my o6's with Ben's Red and a little BLL..granted it is gc'ed...but it's also going alot faster..

Okay. Just checking. I'm kinda used to that big O'l square lube grove in the 429421.

You will not know until you try it! Shoot six and see. I once shot totally un-lubed 308284's all afternoon by just dipping the bullet from the loaded cartridge into a partial bottle of Hoppe'#9. No leading ( but not good groups either!).

Did we do a little sniffing of the Hoppe's before we tried that ?...:)

More than enough, actually you are at 100% capacity unless you fill the crimp groove.

If that does not lead then try cutting back a groove. If that is slightly problematic but shoots well then put on a skim coat of liquid lube.

Less lube is usually better... it has taken me many years to understand this.

That should work out fine Waco. First time I shot tumble lubed ranch dogs I sized in my Lyman 4500 for the 45-70 I was nervous too.
It worked out fine. I actually think there is a benefit to not have deep lube grooves and just enough lube. I can't prove it yet but more testing will follow.

I thought you were using Glen's moly lube now? I was hoping to hear how it worked in rifles. Definitely would be easier to make than the soap lubes.

Yeah, well, the batch I made up first was way too sticky, tacky....I added more beeswax and that seemed to make it better. But, in the mean time I had cleaned out the 450 and went with something I felt comfortable with. I'll get back to my new batch of Glen's Black soon.

What I really need to do is tear down my Marlin 1894 44mag and address the jamming issue I'm having. I think Brad might have nailed the problem. I just need to disassemble and find the problem and fix it. A bit scary for me but it's on my to do list SOON!
I miss my lever 44.......

Drive on over, I will show you how to do it.

Or, use google and find stuff like this. I do it in a slightly different order but this will work. The mainspring is easy to remove. I hold a shop rag over it and tap the retaining clip out with a screwdriver handle.
Be sure not to mix up the bottom plate retaining screw from the side retaining screw. Get the longer one on the side and it locks up the action. Been there, done that.
I have mine apart a fair amount for a really good cleaning.

See, even a pharmacist can do,it.
